RUBRIC "ROOM" dedicated to the place in which a person spends most of his time. It can be absolutely any space: a huge kitchen in which the hero works and rests, an art gallery that has become the second home of its owner, or just a living room in a one-room apartment, which is at the same time an office, a bedroom and a secret place. The space in which a person is able to concentrate on himself and his affairs and not feel himself a participant in the eternal race of a big city. In our new issue - artist Masha Somik and her living room.
We live in this apartment since 2010. I like the Krylatskoye area very much: the open spaces, the Rowing Canal, are always cooler than in the center and breathe well. In addition, do not go far to walk among the trees. The only negative is that our place is far from the metro and, in order to be mobile, we need a car. My parents bought the apartment, and at first it was designed by an Italian designer.
About arrangement
After our son Plato was born, we changed a lot. They threw out a huge closet from the living room, painted the wall in blue and hung it with paintings; bedroom remade in the children's room. With the advent of the child, the space began to overgrow with toys, books, systems began to appear to store all this wealth. At some point I fell madly in love with indoor plants and asked friends and relatives to give me flowers in pots instead of bouquets. Now we have a real jungle: we live on the first floor and almost do not use curtains - the greens hide us from passing by. We also removed the lamps from the ceiling a long time ago and still can’t hang new ones - we want to make our own.
About the room
This is a living room, but it has many functions: here I work by myself, I spend classes on art for children and right there we sleep with my husband on a small sofa. I love this pink sofa and never trade his bed. I can not name my favorite place in this room - I love her all. She is my perfect place. I love drinking tea with friends on the carpet, sitting on the windowsill and chatting on the phone. I like to sit at the dinner table and look out the window. I like to draw at the desktop. I like to read books on a pink sofa.
I am very comfortable working at home. True, I want to move in the direction of creating volumetric sculptures and giant canvases, so now I am looking for a workshop. Although it seems to me that we often have guests, I would like them to come more often. Because of our remoteness from the center and the subway, we don’t spontaneously jump on a cup of tea. I tell my friends that they simply ask for it - I myself rarely go to the center and sometimes suffer from a lack of communication.
About things
My husband is engaged in carpentry, so the dining and coffee tables, a chair, a bookcase and a chest of drawers under the TV are his own business. I have no favorite furniture stores, but, of course, sometimes I go to IKEA for the necessary trifles. I buy flower pots and dishes from friends or receive them as gifts.
I would very much like to bring things for the house from trips, but so far it is not big enough to accommodate everything you like. For example, we brought a carpet from Kiev, it was quite inexpensive. There is also my favorite beautiful pink chair, which was made by our friend and a wonderful furniture designer Sasha Kanygin. I can not imagine my house without flowers and paintings - I really like to buy works from artists or exchange with them. Many still have not hung up - the place is gone.
