Louise Alsop: Androgyny and Black Humor
IN THE WEEKLY RUBRIC "NEW MARK" WE REPRESENT young designers and tell where and how you can buy their things. Our heroine this week is Louise Alsop, young british designer, following Marques'Almeida and Simone Rocha, who presented his collection at one of the main venues for young talents - Fashion East in London.
The Fashion East platform has existed since 2000 in conjunction with Topshop and allows young designers to show off their collections at London Fashion Week, get acquainted with international buyers (at a separate site in Paris) and get serious PR support. Fashion East is overseen by Love’s chief editor. Magazine Lulu Kennedy, who revealed to the world most of the main contemporary designers: Gareth Pugh, Roksanda Ilincic, J.W. Anderson, Jonathan Saunders, Meadham Kirchhoff, and not so long ago - Marques'Almeida, Gosha Rubchinskiy and Simone Rocha.
Each season, only three designers of women's clothing and three - for men (for men's shows there is a separate Fashion East MAN show) have the opportunity to participate in the program. On the Fashion East jury: Sarah Mauer from American Vogue and Style.com, Francesca Burns from British Vogue, Kei Barron from Net-A-Porter, and other important people in the fashion industry who can provide strong support to young designers. That is why the participation of Louise Alsop in the fall season of Fashion East is a great success and achievement for the designer.
Journalists have their eyes on Louisa Alsop, a graduate of the University of Westminster design course, right away after her first collection, in 2013. Critics of the American and Italian and Garage magazine liked the androgynous sporty style and the black humor of Alsop: the designer prints on his things prints in the form of nuns and repeated (like a satanic laugh) initials LALALALA.
The girl creates things of a partially sporting style, obviously, androgyny and obviously uses prints and basic colors: black, gray, sometimes pale mint and purple. In the new collection Alsop decorates dresses, sweatshirts and shorts with threads, graphic prints, transparent fabrics, the inscriptions "Hopeless" and "Loveless" (similar to tattoos), leaving the edges of the clothes unprocessed. A designer likes to combine several differently textured fabrics in one thing: transparent chiffon, fluted cotton, polyamide and, for example, plastic. All this Louise styled with torn nylon socks, torn sneakers and clutches in the form of a white milk bag.
The silhouettes that I use, I take from my own wardrobe: T-shirts, shorts, dresses. The graphics for almost all prints are my own; I put it in parts, then on a transparent fabric, then on matte, putting it all together like a sandwich. I like layers and textures. I love the black color and watch what Francisco Costa does for Calvin Klein, as well as Shaun Samson. The inspiration for the latest collection was the new season South Park, the films "Gummo", "Kids" and "The Craft".
Where to buy things Louise Alsop
The young designer only accepts orders, but we are sure that the time is not far off when Louise Alsop items appear in the Machine-A and Opening Ceremony concept stores in London and New York. In the meantime, Louise can be written directly to [email protected].
