Summer Summer Shoes: Flat Mules
WE CONSIDER THE TRENDS FROM PODIUM, which can be adapted for your wardrobe for the next six months. In this issue we understand how the designers turned out to be almost unanimous in choosing the main shoes of the spring-summer season. Mules on a flat sole, similar to closed slippers, could be seen in a huge pool of brands advocating practicality. Beaded, made of satin or leather, printed or monochrome - a huge choice. We tell how it happened and what to wear them with.
How it all began
Mulley without a backdrop is one of the most ancient types of footwear: slippers with closed toe and heel, which differed little from modern mule, existed in ancient Egypt. Naturally, they were not available to everyone. And at the entrance to the temple or palace, it was customary to leave them behind the threshold. A variation of this shoe was later in Persia. Grandmothers - soft slippers without a backdrop - began to spread throughout North Africa, including Tunisia and Morocco, as well as in Turkey. They were made primarily of embossed morocco - a special sort of leather. Morocco, and in particular the city of Fez, is still considered to be the center of manufacture of this authentic grandmother. If someone of your friends is going on a trip to this country - it's time to ask for a valuable gift that can be found cheaply in any market.
Interest in Mulam arises in the 70s - on the wave of interest in ethnics and the East. Musicians, artists and writers who fell in love with Morocco brought from there tunics of brightly printed fabrics, jewelry and shoes without a heel, which, however, were mostly worn on vacation. The final understanding that slippers can be a full-fledged city shoe is happening only now, as many brands from Trademark to Balenciaga clearly demonstrate.
How mules got back in fashion
Now in footwear, as well as in clothes, there is a clearly traceable trend - everything is fashionable. Eccentricity coexists with minimalism, and practicality with deliberately decorative. Shoes of unusual shapes and proportions, like Cossacks on elegant heels, which foreign publications often call ugly shoes, have been in trend for many seasons in a row. On the next shelves, there are flat shoes - an example of absolute minimalism and new femininity, where convenience and simplicity are at the forefront. Strange pointed-toed boots with embroidery, latex boots, Cossacks, shiny pumps and Victorian-style shoes (large brooches, bows and knots are welcome) coexist with sneakers, kedami, loafers, modest men's-style shoes, and Birkenstocks. Now they added slippers and mules.
One of the first ones in the Resort collection was shown by Phoebe Faylo: her mules look more like traditional grannies with a sharp, slightly upturned toe and buckle. Nicole Phelps from Vogue was one of the first to notice that they were destined to become an "object of desire." Like Phoebe Failo, other designers vote to wear them with the simplest of clothes — and an office suit, and lingerie-style dresses. In the lookbook of the spring-summer collection A.P.C. They were combined with short coats and overalls, at the Victoria Beckham show - with bright dresses and skirts with a slit, and at The Row - with transparent trousers and combinations. Peculiar variations of shoes inspired by mules can also be found in Gucci (their already famous shaggy loafers without a backdrop) and Tommy Hilfiger (lightweight sneakers with a bright elastic band). By the way, mules will stay with us in the fall - in the pre-fall collections they are also present in abundance. It is worth taking a look at the Stella McCartney collection to get inspired and buy an animal print muly.
What to wear
We advise you to discard all the rules: if you have enough courage, you can safely bring your image to some absurdity and wear slippers with gowns and costumes that look like pajamas. There are only reasonable restrictions on the materials: an option that is more suitable for the sea - wicker slippers, for the city - mules made of leather or suede.
The advice on the combination of slippers with a variety of warm and tight socks will just be relevant next fall. Now you should look at the decorative options: a great company to minimalistic slippers will be socks made of lame or socks with embroidery.
Surely this trend will not immediately find understanding among others - it is worth remembering how much bewilderment at first caused the fashion for birkenshtok orthopedic sandals, especially in combination with socks. And in vain - it is difficult to come up with shoes more comfortable for the warm season. In addition, this is the case when a small eccentricity comes with convenience: the main thing, as you know, is your personal comfort.
