The problem of violence in India is still acute: despite the fact that high-profile cases attract international attention, and the authorities are trying to take action, the situation has not been fundamentally changed. A 23-year-old photographer Sujatro Ghosh launched a project in mid-June in which he wanted to emphasize how absurdly women are treated in India: he removes portraits of girls in cow masks to show that it is safer for even animals in the country. “We are waiting for court decisions [on crimes against women] for five to seven years,” the photographer says. “When it comes to cows, such cases are seen as violence, people are beaten and lynched every day. What happens to our country?”
