The best version of yourself: How does procedure dependency arise

RESPONSIBLE IMMEDIATELY: PSYCHOLOGICAL DEPENDENCE CAN BECOME FROM WHAT ANYTHING, if this thing is a quick way to get positive emotions or get rid of negative ones. Since so many residents of the metropolis are subject to daily stress, a proportional number of people appear to have dependencies of varying severity. Among them are food, sex, alcohol, drugs and, sorry, the Internet. Unfortunately, addiction is cured badly, because its object over time begins to occupy more and more places in life, eventually turning into the only source of energy and happiness. It is important to remember: no one is immune from such a development.

Highly effective procedures - Botox injections, mesotherapy or lamination of the hair - immediately give an obvious result.

Not so many people suffer from a real dependence on procedures that promote the pumping of appearance. But it causes tremendous harm to the psyche and self-esteem of those who are ill with it. The problem surrounds from all sides: reference points of appearance are sought in the immediate environment, and in the vast social networks. On any resource where you can put your photos on public display, thousands of girls will show you how to look. From a different front, specialized media and advertisements appear, demonizing wrinkles and cellulite, so that we begin to equate them with a crime against one’s own body.

One of my friends for a very long time was convinced that the main cause of all her problems was overweight. Together we sat on stupid diets, including drinking: we removed all solid foods from borsch and drank straight from the plate. In her life there were different types of physical activity, fasting for several months, complete relaxation, new breakdowns, serious sport and, finally, the very day when she got into the smallest dress in the wardrobe. Five minutes after this event, she published in her toggle a photo with a caption: "No, I do not feel happier."

Dysmorphophobia is a recognized medical disorder with a whole bunch of symptoms and consequences that may be familiar to many. When, during the next crisis, we begin to wonder: "What's wrong with me?" - most of all goes to our appearance. In mild form, the disorder often manifests itself in adolescence, and this is generally normal: our body is changing and, noticing this, we are trying to adapt by any means — accompanying negative experiences are inevitable. If dysmorphophobia has not passed completely by the time the body stops the main part of the transformations (18–20 years), then this is more serious.

Fixation on exaggerated or imagined defects in appearance can manifest itself against the background of psychological trauma, anxiety personality disorder, and other diseases that require recognition and therapy. One of the most striking signs of dysmorphophobia is called the “mirror symptom”: a person looks at all reflecting surfaces (sometimes, on the contrary, refuses to approach the mirror), looks for a favorable angle and hides all those parts of the body and face that seem ugly to him. All thoughts and efforts of a dysmorphophobia sufferer are directed exclusively at correcting deficiencies.

Clients with an emerging dependency begin to do the procedures more often and as a result completely refuse to perceive their appearance without improvements.

Appearance is the most accessible target for condemnation and criticism from those who are not familiar with us closely enough. Many are repelled from it, trying to speak out about our internal qualities, therefore, for each person there will be a couple of physiognomists of the sofa and professional hair telling divinations. People who are particularly sensitive and, in principle, unsure of themselves, such clashes encourage them to try to change their appearance in the direction of all approved standards. A further fall into the abyss triggers what it really helps - although not for long.

Here is a study in which regular visits to beauty parlors are associated with dissatisfaction with the image of one’s own self. He really does not want to believe, because the results are shocking: it is noted, for example, that women visiting a cosmetologist once every two weeks are prone to displaying aggressive behavior with the use of physical force. But I would like to draw attention to something else: the participants in the study frankly admit that they are going to the cosmetology room to get rid of the feeling of guilt and feel freedom and happiness.

Highly effective procedures - Botox injections, mesotherapy, and sometimes completely innocent keratin straightening or lamination of the hair - immediately give an obvious result. The condition of hair and skin improves many times, and it lasts a long time - depending on the characteristics of the body, of course. In the future, parts of the body return to their original state, which most regard as deterioration. The logical step seems to re-receive services. Clients with an emerging dependency begin to do this more and more often and, as a rule, in the end, they completely refuse to perceive their appearance in the version without improvements.

Beauticians are often recommended to undergo psychological courses to work properly with visitors. The doctor needs to understand why a person has decided to cross the cabinet’s threshold and what proportion of awareness is there in his decisions to improve his appearance. For conscientious professionals, it is no secret that a dependency may arise, which is often warned on the websites of salons, in which they offer popular anti-aging and correcting appearance procedures.

Do not go to extremes and call for a ban on the introduction into the body of all these "godless" and "unnatural" substances. In fact, quite consciously treat interventions and understand the difference between aesthetic and medical problems. A cosmetologist is a specialist who provides services of a very specific spectrum, and he cannot help with so many questions. If the cause of your treatment is caused by stress or illness, then he is obliged to refer you to a specialist who is really able to help you, and not continue to provide expensive services that do not eliminate the real problem.

Before you decide to change or improve something, it would be good to take the time to understand why this is necessary.

For the beauty industry, no matter how friendly it looks and no matter how often it puts on the market incredibly delicate tools, the main thing is to sell. This consideration affects not only advertising and packaging design, but also indirectly determines the composition and operation of the product. And for a consumer unsure of his appearance, the main thing is to solve the “problem” by all means and achieve the desired effect.

The beauty industry, by the way, is one of the most stable industries: as a rule, cosmetics sales do not fall to catastrophically low levels even in a crisis. Jars and boxes and in the conditions of complete lack of money seem to be "frivolous" purchases that do not pierce a hole in the budget, but at the same time temporarily relieve stress. Now dummy funds with questionable action or unproved efficiency on the market are very, very much. Years of experience have shown that the average person relies on promises on packages and is rarely aware of the behavior of chemicals. Many of them are sensitive to contact with air and light, are stored for a short time, or over time form an ideal breeding ground for bacteria.

By analogy, many visitors to beauty parlors have little idea how this or that procedure works, and their choices and wishes are based only on advertising promises. Salons often neglect warnings about the consequences and contraindications so that this poorly informed client will not be frightened off. Often we ourselves do not know whether our body has any peculiarities due to which a negative reaction to one or another chemical component of the composition can occur.

The soundest way to gaining benefits is to understand how any businesses that we engage in work. It would seem that history knows many cases when celebrity careers flew up thanks to one plastic surgery, and proper and systematic self-care helps preserve self-esteem in a world where it can crush anything at any time. However, before you decide to change or improve something, it would be good to take the time to understand why this is necessary. And only then decide on something, on the basis of the kindest motives in relation to his face and body, so that going to the salon was a small holiday, and not a duty before the cruel world of beauty.
