What is happening with the Ukrainian fashion: Poustovit SS14 collection

Following the fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris will start local shows. The first - at the Ukrainian Fashion Week, which runs from 9 to 13 October. Wonderzine fashion editor Liza Kologreeva went to events to tell about the most remarkable collections of Ukrainian designers.

This summer, Lilia Pustovit gave birth to a daughter. If you remember, having become pregnant, many designers cancel the show or, like Sarah Burton from Alexander McQueen and Phoebe Faylo from Céline, reduce the large-scale show to a presentation for buyers and journalists. Pustovit, the first Ukrainian designer who created a brand name, decides not to miss the spring-summer season. Before the show, she tells us that after the birth of her daughter, she revised the collection and decided to make it bolder - even if it does not work in the spirit of Poustovit. “It’s necessary to develop,” the designer summarized.

We immediately understand what is at stake. Pustovit releases models on the catwalk in tops with cut-off sleeves and prints with the Poustovit logo, which she hasn’t done before. The move is reasonable from a commercial point of view: T-shirts and sweatshirts have long become one of the best-selling items from Carven, Givenchy, and Kenzo. Another unusual moment for a Ukrainian woman is a print with a logo and flowers around it, painted in a rainbow spectrum. A print-like pattern appeared on light coats of white and pink. From the usual aesthetics Pustovit knocked out and a few tight things from lace with sequins.

Lily focuses on prints that refer to Ukrainian culture. This is a red and blue cell with flowers that looks rather heavy, and a thin black stripe with the same colors is a non-banal interpretation of a classic pattern. The designer uses peas again: she adds barely noticeable small ones to large white peas. Prints were always successful Pustovit is good: and it can be seen from the girls in the first row of the show, a noticeable part is sitting in shirts and dresses with geometric patterns from the autumn-winter collection of the brand.

If the designer focuses on prints, he is unlikely to use an intricate cut. Pustovit is guided by the same principle: she takes as a basis simple tops and pencil skirts, adds to them voluminous skirts and skirts with wedges on basques. Especially good are the pajama costumes, which are combined with silk dressing gowns: it’s still difficult to refuse comfortable home-made clothes, which designers and stylists have been promoting several seasons in a row. Among evening dresses, those reminiscent of sundresses are noteworthy: on the straps and with flying skirts, as well as dresses with a deep neckline in the spirit of the 1980s.
