"How to overeat cake": Girls on how they made chemistry
Permanent waving, or, as we used to call it, chemistry - a procedure surrounded by prejudices. According to the memoirs of our mothers, perm irrevocably destroys hair, it is difficult to cope with the styling, and to grow new untouched hair after it is long and painful. We asked the girls about how their hair (and their owners) feel after applying modern methods and compositions.
I must say that I have never done anything radical with my hair - when I was a teenager, I did not dare either red dreadlocks like Yulia Chicherina and Linda, neither ultrashort haircut, nor banal transformation into a blonde: then sexist jokes were popular and I was dead to death she was afraid of attendant associations. After the statement in the “Available” rubric that I finally took my appearance, after two months, at twenty-eight years old, I terribly wanted curls like Carrie Bradshaw — I don’t even know why, I really didn’t like Carrie . From time to time I used a styler and adored curls - so I decided on a perm.
My master from "Barber Shop 3" tried to dissuade me as best she could, women flew at me from around the salon and said that no one ever did a perm. They were afraid that there would be a clown head, tow and hair, then it would be necessary to almost shave off. The hair really had to be cut off later, but the matter was rather in their natural subtlety and merciless lightening, which I had invented the day before.
I do not regret anything. Chemistry was on my hair for four months - from tiny curls in the style of the bassist of the "Lyceum" Isolde to neat beach waves, there was no fashion for the latter then. It could have been even better and longer if I did something with my hair except lamination and conditioner after washing: I know that there are a million oils and serums, but I started using them quite recently - then it was too lazy and I just did not have time. I have such a character that I get tired of the constant care in the salon, which is necessary for hair with a curl, and I try to find ways to sabotage unnecessary activity as soon as possible.
God, what was my haircut, mother dear! They let me go forward on the street and gave way, returned the tip and spoke in gentle voices wherever they were rude before. Each exit to the city was accompanied by bombing adventures and a bucket of endorphins. Once I washed my dogs, tied them bows, did the styling, dressed up and made up - it was spring, and I will remember this walk forever. Outsiders talked to me, smiled at me, I was Beyoncé and Marilyn Monroe at the same time - a fantastic feeling. Now, with dark brown hair, I am rather invisible, even if I wear bright. I adored curls, with them there was no trouble laying - just changed the parting and occasionally collected them in a bun at the top. I would never give up chemistry if it were harmless, but after two procedures my flabby hair said "Hello?" and turned into sticking in all directions dry wires. Without regret, I cut the most uninspiring.
Chemistry is demonized, but in vain: on unpainted hair, it behaves differently and in a completely different way affects thick and very strong hair, which I have never had. I am terribly happy about this adventure. Compared with a catastrophic haircut in a fashionable salon under Cindy Loper, who grew back with me for another two years and brought to tears, the curling was a holiday - like eating a cake, riding a merry-go-round or drinking champagne at nine in the morning. My opinion is that you have to get up with it from time to time to feel alive.
I first did the long-term styling ten years ago, the last one two years ago, and I updated it once a year. I would definitely not have dared if I hadn’t found my master, Yevgeny Zubova. Since we met, only he is engaged in my hair. Our vision of my image completely coincided, so when he proposed chemistry, I agreed without hesitation. I needed the volume at the roots, the light natural waves and the clarification of tone. All this gave a long-term styling. The most important thing is to trust your master; probably it looks like the decision to make a tattoo.
It depends on which way the master pushes his hair into curlers, how the strands will behave. It is important that the hairdresser understands the specificity of hair growth on your head. As a result, we adapt ourselves so that we give the perfect result. Only friends knew that my hair looked so thanks to the sensitive work of the hairdresser, and not the sun and sea water. I didn’t talk about it much, because no one believed it. I had no side effect: the hair was unpainted, so the slight dryness that the chemical solution gives was perfect for me. The effect can be compared to lightening, but the quality of the hair perm spares much more. I am an adherent of long-term styling and, if I do not become a bald Buddhist nun, I will definitely do more.
On the November holidays, I spontaneously went to Petersburg, immediately after my arrival I was supposed to jerk to Vyborg, but forty-five minutes before the departure of the train, I found myself drinking latte somewhere in the Gorokhovaya area. After the debacle with the trolleybus that went the wrong way, I took the subway, but the closer I got to the end of the branch, the original idea seemed more strange: I risked spending more time on the road than on the walk. In the ill-starred trolley bus, my nail just broke, so the idea of finding a salon and making a manicure came by itself.
Salon was found directly opposite the exit of the metro station "Parnas". During the manicure, looking at the poster with the curly girl on the wall, I thought that before my hair was very beautifully curled, and with the move to Moscow, I began to gradually straighten out. After pregnancy, as it sometimes happens, only some memories of my curlicues remained. In general, right on the spot, I found out if there is a gentle way to curl my hair and not look like a poodle at the same time. And without departing from the cashier I learned whether the master is free.
The master was free and offered me to make a biowave on the Moss solution - for medium and large bobbins (stupid word). After that, everything was quite normal: they washed their heads, wound their hair tightly on these very bobbins, and then generously treated them with a solution. Twenty minutes - and everything is ready. There was only one unpleasant moment: the remedy was disgusting and smelled strongly. And the smell is not weathered from the hair for at least another week, even after washing. By the way, washing your hair after a biowave is not recommended for several days for the result to be fixed.
In general, hair care easier. No need to spend time on styling: in the morning my head, on slightly dried hair, I apply a texturizing agent, if I am in a hurry, I finish drying it with a hair dryer. Well, if I don’t have time to wash my hair in the morning, then in the tail they look bigger and tidier than before the curl.
At one time, I often experimented with style: my hairdresser was my roommate. I changed my hairstyle and hair color once every three weeks. And then one day she did a perm: a friend persuaded her not to do this, but it dawned on me that thanks to her the transition from dark colored hair to my natural color would become less noticeable. In short, the experiment with a perm, I do not exactly repeat. With the quality of performance, everything was fine: modern means allow not to spoil the hair, even if they were previously painted. Everything looked quite natural. It just turned out that my curls absolutely, absolutely not go. Such a hairstyle, as they say, will forgive me. To be honest, I do not know at all who she is going to, in fact, especially if it is a perm on long hair or a square. I looked at myself and only one association was born in my head - with the clown Krusty.
Curls did not fit the mood to my wardrobe and to the features. In addition, they had to be constantly laid using special tools and a diffuser, otherwise it looked as if the dog was sleeping on its head. I had to buy all sorts of pins and braid a long square in the braids around the head. As soon as my hair had grown back enough, I cut my hair very short for the first time and since then I haven’t even painted my hair and have been sticking to about the same length for several years. Still, the experiments are going on in order to come to some uniquely suitable option.
I have always admired the owners of curly or perfectly straight hair - my hairstyle was most often somewhere between a light wave and strange curl bends at the tips. So an attempt to join one of the camps was a matter of time. I did the perm twice - in 2015 and in the beginning of 2017. For the first time the master was advised to me by a friend, and the procedure itself was called long-term styling. The second time I chose a salon at random and made a biowave.
The system is as follows: the strands are wound onto coils of different diameters and coated with a chemical composition that forms a curl. In fact, the same chemical dressing, but more gentle, thanks to the progress in the chemical industry. Immediately after the procedure, you can not wash your head for several days, and then you are allowed to use soft shampoos (deep cleansing products will not work) and it is not recommended to do staining for one to two months. Not every master will take the curl on henna-colored hair: it is believed that this is the most unpredictable dye, and its reaction with the chemical composition can be anything.
I liked the result, but, like straight hair, curls at some point bored, and I returned to the usual square. The trick of gentle curling is that the styling will be wavy only if you dry your hair with a hair dryer with a diffuser or in a natural way. It is necessary to comb the wet strands and lay a round brush - and there are no curls. In fact, the latter was the main reason to return to the previous styling: drying with a diffuser took a lot of time, and walking with a wet head in the winter and autumn is not too pleasant.
After the biowave hair is a little drier, but I can not say that it is noticeable: save oil, regular masks and good conditioner. After curling, I tried to buy shampoo and balm for curly hair, but did not notice much of the effect and continued to use products for colored hair. I think to repeat the experiment closer to the summer, when drying the hair in a natural way will not be so cold. Hair is hardly affected by perm more than daily use of a hair dryer and curling.
The idea to make a perm I nursed for several months from the moment I made the sombre; chose a salon in which she did styling several times. There they told me that it was possible to make a sparing procedure - a biowave, which uses not such aggressive substances. The first disappointment was that I represented beautiful large curls in my head, but it turned out that this would not work, the curls would be only of a certain diameter, not so large, by my standards. Well, the small ones are so small, but the sombre will look good, I thought. The second disappointment is that after a few days my clarified ends began to fall off. After six months, no sombre on my hair was left at all. It turned out, of course, a complete failure, and the worst thing is that I didn’t like myself at all with a perm.
As a result, a bird's nest was left on my head, in which my fingers got stuck, if I accidentally ran my hand through my hair, because the perm had finally finished off my naturally thin hair that had been dyed, repainted and highlighted millions of times. In general, when I did the perm, I was absolutely sure that now I wouldn’t have to style my hair. Well, why lay them if they are already curled? It turned out that the hassle with curly hair is much more: you can comb normally, only while your head is wet, you need to use styling tools so that the curls look neat, and it also takes much more time to give them the right look medium length hair dryer. In general, as soon as my hair grew back, I cut my hair short and returned to my straight hair - and the issue with the chemical waving closed for me once and for all.
