Proved: tequila agave can help diabetics
At the 247th meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS) among the ten thousand reports was one rather amusing: a group of scientists found out that the sweetener from the agave — the one from which tequila is distilled — can reduce blood glucose in people with diabetes type
"We found that agavins, an agave sweetener, lowers glucose and increases glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and insulin in the blood. GLP-1 is a hormone that slows down the passage of food through the stomach and therefore stimulates insulin production. Such The sweetener is cheap, it has no side effects, although you shouldn’t exclude the possibility of individual intolerance, ”explained Dr. Mercedes Lopez.
In addition, agavins helps to rather feel the saturation and does not cause, unlike artificial ones, a headache. It belongs to the category of fructans: fructose in these substances forms long chains, and the body cannot use them to raise blood sugar levels. Agavins should not be confused with agave syrup and nectar, in which there can be a large amount of "free" glucose (not connected in chains). Unfortunately, health tequila itself will not help at all (we managed to hope).
