ØDD creative director Daniel Ballen about favorite outfits
FOR RUBBER "WARDROBE"we take pictures of beautiful, original or strangely dressed people in their favorite things and ask them to tell related stories. This week our heroine is Daniel Ballen, creative director of the ØDD New York fashion brand. She told us about the love of subcultures, avant-garde brands, ways to combine the patsansky spirit with girlish makeup and good reasons not to wear new jeans.

I have a tendency to be emotionally attached to things because of the experiences and impressions associated with them. Each thing has its own story, so my outfits often serve as a way to start a conversation. I bought a dress and a bra in Paris, my friend gave me a trench, and I found some pants at the bottom of the pants. I bought a hair tie at the Oukan store in Berlin - he had such a cute and friendly owner with amazing energy that I really wanted to buy there at least something insignificant that would remind me later of the positive feelings I experienced so far from home .

My purely personal opinion: denim should be exclusively vintage - ancient and perfectly shabby. This fabric has such a bright character, because it stands up to all the scrape that the master of things falls into. This jacket is all worn out, its scars are hidden under the patches and all sorts of additional details - whatever happens to it, it will only become more beautiful over the years. I love the nostalgic spirit of vintage boiled jeans, this is my declaration of love 80th and 90th.

Erica Badu is a goddess. She has an impeccable sense of style: she can step on the stage in wrapping paper and still look like a million, I swear. Her music is poetry. She personifies and funk, and jazz, and soul, and hip-hop. She personifies everything that surrounded me in my childhood and youth. I bought Mike at her New York concert a few years ago. I made cuts on the sides, I have no idea why. I then had a period when I was constantly armed with a pair of scissors.
Training - a gift from one of my closest Parisian friends. I took the shirt from my best friend: I always steal it straight from his closet, and he only notices when he sees my selfie in it. This has become a fun tradition. Most of all I am pleased, of course, that he has a height of ninety meters and nothing from my rags does not suit him, ha ha!

Rebellion and subcultures - I’m all in it, and I try to reflect this within reasonable limits in everything I do and carry. I am deeply opposed to the usual concept of "femininity" and everything that "sexuality" imposes on a woman, which is probably why this combination is my favorite. I can combine it with heels, red lipstick and elegant styling. It seems to me a reasonable compromise.

Issey Miyake and Yohji Yamamoto create wearable art. Point. The folds of this dress seem to live their own life. I usually wear it with sneakers or with these creepers, which gives it a completely new vibe, which I really like. It can be interpreted in a bunch of different ways!
These shoes are my happiness and my curse. I saw them on one streetstyle photo and fell in love at first sight. But nowhere was my size, so I had to buy them half a size smaller. And this is a curse. The good news is that they are damn cool and I wear them no matter what. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices!

I work for, I think, one of the coolest brands in New York - we also have a multi-brand boutique on the Lower East Side, so I always have the most advanced designer stuff at hand. This is just a paradise for fashion maniac! Each of these things is dear to my heart, because each has a characteristic, defining detail that immediately falls into the heart. All three items created by designers, innovators of the highest class.

Jeremy Scott is one of my favorite designers, although, of course, I have to turn a blind eye to the fact that he takes himself too seriously. But his clothes are real fun. I always feel like a big kid in his stuff.
Skirt found in a vintage store in the Paris Marais. Paris is my absolute favorite among all the cities of the world, and I always find there something to which I stick with all my heart. "Nike" - the most running shoes in my wardrobe, in a sense, they always remind me that you should not be too worn out. I like to combine them with dresses or with some more formal clothes. Honestly, for this purpose I bought them.
A wallet is a special thing. Most of my acquaintances think that I carry with him like a jerk. But he got me from two very important people from the Issey team: they donated ØDD to all employees in such a wallet, and he always reminds me of them.

If you see me in such a dress, it means that I have big things to do this day. I work as a creative director of a fashion brand, and this means that at any moment I may need to go from Manhattan to Brooklyn and back several times a day. And yet it must be remembered that I work in an industry where appearance plays a big role. Yes, leggings are not pants. I know. But this is my little protest. I love this top for its simplicity, but at the same time for the fact that it playfully exposes a piece of the back. These are perfect heels - they have a little sporty spirit, so they blend perfectly with more relaxed outfits.

In this outfit I feel like a vamp woman! I love this top very much because it has a wow effect. In my opinion, the back is the sexiest part of the body that a woman can demonstrate. You can bare it a bit, but you can completely, and it will never look too much. In general, such a thing must be worn with dignity and one must be sure that you do not accidentally light up too much.
Skirt - a classic. Every girl should have a black pencil skirt. Useful in any circumstances. From the sight of lightning, everyone usually climbs their foreheads, and it makes me laugh.
