Instead of "cat eyes": Arrows of unusual color and shape
A few years ago, under the "arrows" we had in mind a well-defined form of eye makeup - the very classic cat eyes with a software tail upraised. But in the past few seasons of fashion weeks, leading make-up artists have been bored endlessly quoting retro, and in modern makeup you can find hundreds of great ideas from completely different shooters. We offer to remember graphic, multi-colored, grunge and drawn on the line of options for eye makeup, which each of us can easily adopt.
How it started
Non-standard versions of arrows in art make-ups were often shown to us, but, as a rule, the “artistry” of such make-up prevailed over its wearability: the multi-colored or black arrows, which invented the most unusual forms, often remained part of the show and invented images for it. But in recent seasons, interesting ways to use liner came to the fore, especially many of them were at the spring-summer shows.
Back in 2015, many people, from Martin Margiela to Chanel, were entertained by graphic accents on Paris Fashion Week, and by 2017 these experiments could be seen on all the main catwalks of the Big Four. Fashionable publications that traditionally monitor trends first noticed this bright turn, and then began to seriously suggest inspiring and repeating images from shows by Kenzo, Fendi, Prabal Gurung and many others. Yes, among them there are many who will be able to do it more likely to professionals or to those who are sure that the hand will not tremble - but there are options that are a little easier to implement. In addition, they generally fit into the general tendency towards a relaxed and careless make-up better than carefully traced lines above, below or around the eyes. Emma Watson, Zoe Kravitz and Lily Collins have already tried out the non-standard graphics in their eyes.
Why do we need it
If you are looking for a way to rethink the old techniques within the framework of modernity, it will be logical to start with eyeliners and bright pencils: black arrows are associated with deliberate sexuality just as much as red lipstick - and not everyone can like it. Lines under the eyebrow, arrows from colored blocks or graphical features drawn to the temples look just as boldly, but they already look like make-up from an era in which it turns into a way of self-expression. And yes, the opportunity to afford not to strive for the classical form is another small step towards a humane attitude towards one’s own face: maybe in the future there will be no need for hundreds of instructions telling how to conjure a canonical arrow for the impending century or for the Asian eye shape.
How to do it
Such make-up details require first of all a tool of a suitable shape: in most cases there will be enough thin brush for the liner or thick bevelled. But what to draw is almost unimportant, it all depends on what kind of texture you want to see before your eyes. For graphic arrows, liquid matte lipsticks without irritating substances in the composition, pigments and wet shades, liquid and gel liners are excellent. If you want to create a work of graphic art, you can ask your friends to practice with you - it is easier to achieve symmetry with someone else’s hands.
For many forms, the make-up line will be a great helper, which, however, is easy to find a replacement among the scrap materials. Do not be afraid of stencils - with them the lines will be as clear as possible, and the result can be corrected by the concealer. For fans of chaotic, free and grunge lines, the situation is much simpler - there are hardly any obstacles in front of your imagination.
