How “ugly” sneakers are back in fashion

In 2013, Raf Simons began working with adidas, releasing unusual sneakers: from a mesh of different colors, with a convex sole and asymmetrical details. The Ozweego model was so elaborate that for the first time in a long time it shook the hegemony of concise design. The novelty was appreciated by musicians who already loved to shock the public: Kanye West, A $ AP Rocky and Big Sean immediately became the owners of the sneakers.

To the boom of “ugly” sneakers, the audience was prepared not only by Ozweego, but also by massive Nike Air Max 95 and 97, reminiscent of astronauts' shoes - metallic colors only added futuristic models. By 2017, just a couple of companies had to release "unusual" sneakers to finally set the trend.

The most noticeable were the Balenciaga Triple S: because of the design (multi-layered ribbed soles and multi-colored mesh), the high price of $ 850 and star fans - among them the models Bella Hadid, Hayley Baldwin and Elsa Hosk. Now the production of this pair of real gold mine brand; Sneakers are planning to re-release in different versions for at least two more seasons. The brand carefully monitors the places of sales and the list of buyers - hence the exclusivity fleur and excitement among resellers.

Kanye West's sneakers also caused a stir: the rapper and TV star Kim Kardashian started wearing Yeezy Boost 700s even before the start of sales; the latter, however, has not yet taken place - the brand only donated couples to selected fashionable customers around the world. The new model differs from the previous releases with a price of $ 300, a very thick sole and asymmetrical details - that is, all with the same distinctive design.

You can not ignore the "ugly" sneakers giants luxury Prada and Gucci. If the first ones really look like neat footwear of the future, then the second ones are made according to the canons of the genre - it was not without a noticeable logo. The first "budget" sneakers of this kind appeared, of course, in Zara: the company hurried to present a model that combines everything at once.

Other brands go further and unscrew the symbolic utility of sneakers to the full. So, artificial “dirt” was added to the grotesque, “father's” design - now other new couples purposely look as if they were worn for more than one season. The most striking release was a model from the Vetements and Reebok collaboration, which can now be bought at a discount.

What to wear

For winter and off-season, “ugly” sneakers are perfect: they will replace the annoying heavy boots and perfectly fit into the image with a down jacket - both oversized model and a fitted coat. You can follow the example of the brand Yeezy, in whose collections only muted, "dusty" colors are combined, and you can play with contrasts, choosing shoes and bright colors or with a pattern. These sneakers claim to be the base thing in the wardrobe, so you can combine them with an evening dress in sequins, and with a tracksuit.

The excitement around the releases, the trend for workouts and the unquenchable success of Yeezy clearly show that the sporting style will linger for a long time. For the summer there is a reason to pick up plain-colored leggings, hoodie and a pair of space shoes. Fashion gets used to everything quickly, so with the advent of heat, such sneakers can easily get rid of the label of "ugly" - and become the most common.
