How and why designers turned to the 1980s

As the critic Guy Tribei noted, due to the acceleration of the pace of life, people are increasingly changing their tastes in clothes. Most recently, we talked about the fascination of the sixties and nineties, and now another decade is approaching - the eighties. It was then that most modern designers grew: from Ricardo Silence to Phoebe Faylo. In their childhood they are nostalgic no less than their twentieth colleagues in the nineties. The eighties are identified by a hundred trifles, such as headbands, Members Only jackets and bags on the hip. However, in modern clothes are read more global trends.

The fashion of the time was influenced by all the pop-cultural phenomena, without exception, as is usually the case. The Gianni Versace and Karl Lagerfeld collections echoed the style of musicians, such as Madonna and Michael Jakson, and subcultures such as preppy and hip-hop, and the series Dynasty. In the new season we see references to all the symbols of the eighties. For example, Jean-Paul Gauthier dedicated the show to the pop icons of the eighties - Boy George, David Bowie and Annie Lennox. Chloe and Valentino recall neo-romantics: this trend of fashionistas arose in the early 1980s, its representatives adapted historical costumes to life, inspired by "Barry Lyndon" Stanley Kubrick. Balmain and Chalayan show jackets with large shoulders, love for which was fueled not only by the Dynasty costume designer Nolan Miller, but also by British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Trends of the 1980s

For many, the trends of the eightieth echo the signs of the nineties, take at least neon colors and deliberately exaggerated volumes. One of the reasons is that these signs of the era of permanent curls and leggings reached Russia a little later than before the West. If you want to make a bow in the style of the eighties, pay attention not only to neon and voluminous things, but also to pants, bananas and mini-skirts, as well as accessories and jewelry - for example, small bags with long straps and earrings-rings.

BODY SHEETS

We devoted a separate material to changing the proportions of the figure, a year ago. Since then, little has changed: the coats are still voluminous, and the shoulder line is just as wide. At least so decided Hermes and Kenzo.

PANTS AND MINI SKIRTS

NEON

Bright monochrome colors remind us of both futurism and the 1960s, but are primarily associated with the eighties. Especially popular are lime, like in Rag & Bone and Simone Rocha, and orange, like in Acne and Stella McCartney.
