Founder of Africa Art Fashion Fashion Festival Anna Rykova about favorite outfits
FOR RUBBER "WARDROBE" we take pictures of beautiful, original or strangely dressed people in their favorite things and ask them to tell related stories. This week, our heroine is the founder of the Africa Art Fashion Food Festival, stylist and consultant Anna Rykova.
There are two main methods by which I will be recognized: bright colors and prints, mostly ethnic. I love them and I think I can wear them. I tried to approach this shooting as an editor: I wanted it to look whole. Although I love bright colors, in everyday life I do not wear pink so often. These images just look good along with the base of this collection - the suit Dries Van Noten. In order for clothes to come to my wardrobe, it must be very “mine”. I had so much fashionable things in my hands that I myself was not interested in wearing all this.
My wardrobe is divided into three segments: clothes for filming, for shows and for African trips. The first - sweatpants, hoodie and shoes. The most convenient things in which you can fall to the ground and not be afraid to get dirty; what is warm in winter and what does not burn in summer. The second is the brightest things that are suitable for business meetings. The third - dresses in the floor, turbans and hats, which in the city I can not wear under any circumstances. They can not be afraid to get a sunburn or blow. Well, in general, this whole ethno-bohemian story goes to me.
I came across a book about African masks when I entered the Textile Institute, and I immediately fell in love. All five years of study, my work was only related to this topic, from textiles to bronze sculpture of Benin. Further more. I became interested in music, and contemporary art, and food; began the journey in which I met with African designers. Looking at my wardrobe, it is easy to notice that I have a lot of them. Of course, as elsewhere, there are also brands that you don’t look at whose work without tears. But there are many good and original authors who are trying to achieve quality and remain authentic. They make the most of the traditions of the countries where they come from - and this is valuable.
Once I was very fond of vintage: I knew all the profile stores in New York and could find them without a map. But the interest went away, and now I have the only favorite place left. It is located in Berlin, called Rianna in Berlin - there is a very interesting selection. He is being held by a Greek woman whose business she got from her mother. Rihanna, like me, also likes prints - maybe that's why I go there for many years.
I would not say that the work greatly influenced my style. But, to be honest, when you have press discounts in good stores, it's easier for you to look the way you want. Apparently, it is because of the profdeformation that online shopping does not suit me: I like to touch everything, check the seams. I always study whether everything is done according to technology.
J.Crew T-shirt, Awale Studio pants, Rupert Sanderson shoes, Max Mara bag, Skermunkil earring
I prefer to buy t-shirts and knitwear in J.Crew. I cut the tags off all the T-shirts, but I think this one also comes from there. Bag on the texture and pattern resembles a fabric bogolan. Shoes bought when the Rehabshop just opened. Yes, I like to go in high heels: I can leave these houses in these shoes at nine in the morning, come back at twelve at night and not get tired at all. The pants are an African designer: he is Lebanese himself, but he founded the brand in Côte d'Ivoire. Earring bought in the last trip to South Africa.
Bomber Jacket Erma, Pants & Other Stories, Mules Topshop
To be honest, I don’t have a lot of shoes from the mass market. These mules are a spontaneous purchase after the re-opening of the store in the "European". Pants took in Berlin, when she realized that I lack simple black trousers. The bomber of the Russian brand again, I liked the fact that it has a hint of ethnic. In general, bombers wear much more often than classic jackets.
Jewelry - memories of travel (except for the baptismal cross, of course), they are all with some spiritual and mystical meaning. For example, the last, the longest, is the spirit of the Zambezi River Nyami-Nyami. This is a gift from Patrick Mavros, a Zimbabwe jeweler.
MaXhosa by Laduma Top, Stella Luna Shoes, Pants & Other Stories
Top African designer, whom I really wanted to bring to the festival, bought in South Africa. We had long negotiations with the agent, but still did not work out. There are shops in almost every large African city, where local brands are represented, but, frankly, retail in Africa is quite specific. Hope to get to Nigeria soon - they have a wonderful Alara boutique. When I was there the last time, it was very small, and now - huge. It has everything from Saint Laurent to African designers. In Africa, by the way, their difficulties - with orders and accommodation. There are no factories or fabrics, so things are quite expensive.
There is a story with shoes that could only happen to me. I was at the Paris Fashion Week and spent the whole day in sneakers - a Russian designer, by the way. By evening, I felt very bad, my legs and back ached. At the same time the next day was supposed to be the same intense. Then I remembered that in the magazine Air France Madame, which I was looking through on the plane, there was an advertisement for the brand of shoes, whose flagship store was just on the way. I went in, bought and went to them all the remaining days. For me, they are hyperadobic.
Dries Van Noten costume, Manolo Blahnik shoes, earrings from the Museum of Decorative Art
Dries van Noten is perhaps the only designer with whom I can wear items from each collection. When I arrive in Paris, the first thing I do is go to his boutique. In general, this jacket and pants - not a suit. The pants of the same fabric did not suit me, and we selected these with a consultant.
It is these shoes that I wear extremely rarely: only in Europe and if I know that I will be in a car all day. They are suede and get dirty from one glance. But it is impossible beautiful.
Someone likes to buy jewelry in vintage shops, and I - in museums. Surprisingly, it is in the museum shops that the coolest jewelry is. These earrings found in the Paris Museum of Decorative Arts.
Post-Imperial Shirt, People Skirt, Pierre Hardy Shoes
Mark Post-Imperial founded the designer from Nigeria, very cool, makes men's collections. I just dream to start selling it in Russia. He gave me this shirt; I love her very much, she is good with both simple jeans and skirts. In addition, it can be worn in different ways, for example, taking it off the shoulder. He uses the traditional technique of dyeing adire fabric for Nigeria: they are painted there, and they are already sewn in America.
Skirt - a random purchase. I have long wanted a denim, but it was not that. I met the right person in Milan, in the Brera region, when I was saved from the rain and decided to go to the store.
My mother gave me shoes for her birthday - they are already ten years old. But because I carry things very carefully, they look like new. Probably these are the only kitten heels that I have.
Uniqlo sweater, Max Mara leather skirt, West African bracelets
The skirt is a very nice brand gift. I never diets, so I almost never wear clothes from the press offices. But this skirt is a favorite exception.
With regard to the origin of the bracelets, everyone speaks differently: someone claims that they are from Mali, someone - that from Ghana. I think they are doing both there and there. Some are lost, some I buy more. I love when a lot of them.
Lala Berlin Cardigan, Sigerson Morrison Boots
Cardigan acquired long before the fashion for knitted coats. This brand was tried to be brought to Moscow, but it seems that it did not go because it was very expensive to purchase. Absolutely my thing, which is also a decent amount of years. It is spectacular, and it is extremely convenient.
I love to travel to Germany and Austria - countries that for some reason are called boring. Women there are very fond of conservative models of clothing and footwear, so all the most unusual always remains at discounts. These ankle boots are just from such a trip during sales.
Issey Miyake Jacket
One of the rare cases where I really hunted for a thing. I first saw her on the show and could not wait for it to go on sale. This two-sided jacket is not quite a typical thing for me in form, but absolutely mine in content.
Love Deluxe Dress, Casadei Sandals
Dress girl designer from South Africa. She makes things out of the fringe, manually stringing each thread on the net - the effect of feathers is obtained. The dress itself is wildly heavy, but extremely spectacular. At first I wanted black, but only pink remained. I took it and do not regret it!
These sandals have already experienced two Nigerian weddings. I plan to take the third.
Dress Von Vonni, decoration Kenyan designer
This is my magic wand in case of black tie. In this dress you do not need to think whether you are fit or not - you are always beautiful in it. He came up with my good friend, who made the collection under the brand Von Vonni. I usually wear a turban with this dress, but I couldn’t tie it on the actual shooting. In Russia, for some reason, it is generally poorly tied, but in Africa even a mirror is not needed.
Necklace Kenyan designer, a girl whose name I, unfortunately, can not name. Accidentally in London came across a pop-up boutique of African designers. Well, what else? This is a long-standing acquisition. I like the fact that it can be worn in several ways and even as a belt. Done very delicately.
Dress Rianna + Nina, Miu Miu sandals
The mistress of the vintage boutique Rianna in Berlin and her friend Nina founded their brand. It all started with the fact that Rihanna sewed things from vintage fabrics. This dressing gown from their very first collection - there is not even a label on it yet. I wear it both as a coat and as a dress.
Coat By Malene Birger, Adriano Goldschmied Jeans, Schutz Mules, Valentino Bag
I love leopard print. Once we met with Katya Klimova at fashion week, when I had a tiny leopard print bag with me. Noticing her, she said: "And here is the leopard. I know! So, everything is fine." I lost a belt from this coat, and, although I spent the whole day searching for it, it was never found.
Jeans bought at Sixth Avenue - they have the best denim department in the world. Schutz is one of my favorite spots in New York: I went to Barney's, shed tears from prices and went to Schutz. They do not know how to make winter shoes, like all Brazilian brands, but they have very successful sandals and all summer shoes.
I am indifferent to bags, but I can't do without them. This one is my favorite. Of course, because she is from a collection dedicated to African culture.
