Summer coat-robes: Homewear on the streets
WE CONSIDER THE TRENDS FROM PODIUM, which can be adapted for your wardrobe for the next six months. In this issue we understand how the designers turned out to be almost unanimous in choosing the main outerwear of the summer - light robes. We tell how it happened and what to wear them with.
How it all began
It is easy to guess that the history of the robe begins with the Ancient East: loose, with wide sleeves, they were worn by both men and women. In Arabic and Asian culture, a long button-down robe was the basis of the wardrobe. For the representatives of rich estates, bathrobes were sewn from silk and satin, and decorated with various plot prints. Bathrobe was made to present as a reward. It is believed that the Turks brought a robe to Europe, and in Russia it appeared thanks to the war with them. Men wore dressing gowns over shirts and trousers, and soon they became the subject of home wardrobe, as well as a marker of luxurious and idle life for those who could not afford to work.
In the 60s and 70s, tunics and robes, decorated with embroidery and decorated with fringe, became popular in the wake of hippie interest in the East and ethnics. However, these variations are still very different from the "underwear" gowns, which were still not taken to wear outside the apartment. Thus, in the movie “Planet of the Apes”, the ape-hero appears before the audience in a dressing-gown, and in the historical cinema one often saw special “smoking” dressing-gowns that men put on over their clothes, protecting them from ashes. Today, in the wake of the “new comfort” course, it is proposed to wear bathrobes as casual clothes - and this, by the way, is not just about girls.
How bathrobes are back in fashion
A simple free coat is not a trend of today. Free, tied up with a belt, they have been appearing on shows in the autumn-winter seasons for several seasons in a row. American Glamor notes that the ideal model should be so comfortable that when you return home, you would forget to remove it. Fashion tends to diversity and the search for new comfortable models and materials: we are already used to suits in lingerie style, to combination dresses, and to mules on a flat sole. The more eroded the concept of "home" and "street" clothing, the more irreplaceable seem robes. Today you can wear them both as a dress and as a coat.
For example, Creatures of Comfort take their cue from Hugh Hefner and the classic men's robe, which is easy to imagine with velvet sleepers. Thakoon offer to wear it with a body with culottes - a luxurious outfit for relaxing and strolling along the evening quays. Givenchy gives carte blanche to satin boudoir versions of a milky color, and Gucci, on the contrary, rely on a bright print - and win: there is little what street fashion report did without it. In the collections of the next season there are also enough light coat-coats, though wearing them in the conditions of the Russian winter is somewhat problematic. Therefore, one advice - to start doing it right now, the benefit of many options already available at a discount. Russian designers (for example, VikiLiberman and House of Kaftans) are also inspired by the national clothing of the Middle East, where the dressing gown and caftan are still in price: despite the use of traditional forms and prints, their products look as clear as possible in the spirit of the times.
What to wear
At the mention of things that only recently were relevant only at home, the traditional gloss usually advises caution and combine them with everyday clothes. No doubt - a robe with denim shorts, sneakers and a regular T-shirt always looks appropriate and does not cause questions. But we would advise you to go all-in: silk suits, slippers, high heels, large jewelery and even turbans - that is how the stylist Katherine Baba, the girlfriend and the muse of designer Dries van Notein, dress with the East. The last of the seasons of the season shows variations of bathrobes, kimonos and caftans in their collections. If the variety of bright colors and prints does not appeal to you, ask the designer Lüelle Bartley for an example - loafers, minimalist decorations, a strict bag look, along with a coat-coat, relaxed and not boring.
Another question - how to wear a bathrobe in the form of a dress? We would say with confidence. It does not require any special accessories, but if you want to hit everyone, rely on shiny earrings or large necklaces. This dress can be combined with wide trousers: if you choose the option of silk and satin, you get a real suit. From shoes fit and white sneakers, and intricate sneakers, and slippers, and sandals with high heels. In order not to leave a trace of the feeling of a home set, throw a backpack over your shoulders - you can hardly think of a set for summer more conveniently.
