Meteorological sculptures "Weathered"

EVERY DAY IN THE WORLD APPEAR beautiful or impossibly beautiful things, and you can look at some of them endlessly. Or at least a couple of minutes - to unload the brain, escape from the routine and let your eyes rest.

The founders of the Norwegian design bureau Kneip were always fascinated by two things: the elements and fine handmade work. This is clearly evident in their series of sculptures "Weathered", recently presented at the London Design Festival and reminiscent of the famous kinetic sculptures by Alexander Calder. As it is easy to guess from the name, art objects comprehend natural phenomena and beat atmospheric indicators - from seismic activity to wind strength and humidity. In total, "Weathered" includes four sculptures, the appearance of each is inspired by traditional scientific instruments, and they are made of different types of wood (oak, beech, birch) and metals (copper, steel, brass).

“We wanted to re-interpret the functional purpose of classic scientific sensors,” explained Kneip founders Jørgen Platu Willumsen and Stian Korntved Ruud, and they did it in general. Sculptures "Weathered" equally well perform their utilitarian tasks: they really track and show changes in humidity, wind speed and direction, as well as record seismic activity, and please the eye. Agree, you can watch for hours how a beautiful weather vane spins slowly, and on a hygrometer, more like an artsy-fartsy slingshot, the thin horse hair is stretched due to the dryness of the air.
