6 gift shops in Rome

Under the heading "Pereves", people close in spirit tell us about stores in their favorite cities of the world, which cannot be missed on a trip and from where it is impossible to leave without shopping. In the new material, Elle.ua website’s senior editor Elena Dyachenko talks about Rome’s shops, where you can find traditional Sicilian smells and aromas of already well-known niche brands, as well as buy gastronomic souvenirs and at the same time the best bread of the city.

New fragrance - the first thing you want to buy in Rome. Preferably with notes of myrtle, citrus and amber, Italian classics, which are imbued with pedestrians and streets. You can start diving into the world of perfumery shops with the L'Olfattorio concept store with familiar brands (Diptyque, Penhaligon's), as well as the less well-known The Different Company, Piver, Compagnie de Provence and Miller Harris.

L'Olfattorio is made on the principle of a perfume bar: you can taste a dozen flavors at a special counter under the guidance of an experienced consultant.

The shop specializes in classic Sicilian smells: bergamot, amber, lime, almond, pomegranate, fig, lavender. However, perfumes of the same name are not the main thing, why you should go here. Soap in vintage packaging, candles, home fragrances, and sachets for lingerie are a surefire option for friends.

There are branches of Ortigia Sicilia in Milan, Florence, Berlin, London and, of course, in Sicily - in Syracuse and the resort Sciacca.

In this perfumery in Piazza di Pietra, it makes sense to go on the eve of an aperitif in the nearby Salotto 42 bar. Envy everyone here can get the fragrance used by Elizabeth II, favorite smell of actress Eleonora Duse or perfume-allegory "Venus" Botticelli. At the request of the client, an individual bottle will be mixed right on the spot. Like most perfumery shops in Rome, there are no men's or women's fragrances here: Italians are sure that the main criterion is their own taste.

The alternate address is Profumum Roma. In the assortment of the Roman brand with half a century of history, there is even a fragrance with the smell of tundra.

There are many decent design shops on Ripetta Street, but Mia is an absolute must-see. Located in the building of a former monastery next to the art institute Academia di Belle Arti, it looks more like a museum. The focus is on piece objects: fancy-shaped lamps, ceramic panels, restored retro chairs from the 50s, dishes and bright textiles. Without going broke, you can get away with a set of glasses made of bright glass.

In the neighboring 'Gusto - the best choice of gadgets for the kitchen, dishes and cookbooks.

Ostiense Station is not the most obvious place for shopping. However, to get here is still worth it: here is located the three-story food-store Eataly, where you can find gastronomic specialties from all over Italy. Ideal format for souvenirs: fruit mostard, fig or chestnut confiture, truffle salsa and red orange Sicilian liqueur. What you did not manage to take with you, you can eat right on the spot: in pop-up restaurants with laconic names "Pasta", "Fish", "Meat" or "Mozzarella" they prepare simple dishes from the freshest products. My favorite is the Fadlli Maioli food brand and the nearby ice cream parlor is a weighty competitor to the Grom network.

Space Eataly has developed the iconic design studio Kartell.

To save time for an extra museum, it’s worth combining gastroshopping with a great lunch at Salumeria Roscioli. While waiting for a table in a tiny restaurant-shop, you can choose delicacies for gifts to loved ones: handmade pasta, pesto, olive or truffle oil, cheese, anchovies in elegant jars. Around the corner from Roscioli is the bakery of the same name, which delivers the best bread in Rome to a restaurant. On the way, buy a closed ricotta cake with chestnuts: it is stored for about four days.
