Normcore Care: Why is everyone talking about "cosmetic fasting"

The tendency to reduce the number of cans on the shelf, perhaps one of the most important in modern care. "Naked" skin has become the best makeup, and minimalistic rituals are written much more often than about the endgame multistage system. Now the editions sharpened on a young audience began to write about “skin fasting” - “cosmetic fasting”, during which you simply give your skin a break from creams and serums. We understand why everyone was so excited by the normal attitude.

MARGARITA VIROV

How it started

The first material about "cosmetic fasting" appeared in the blog of the Japanese brand Mirai Clinical - the creator of the brand Koko Hayashi argues that the periodic rejection of caring cosmetics helps to help the skin feel good (also sounds the ubiquitous spell about the "withdrawal of toxins", whatever that means, but omit him). Along with a new spiral of interest in the Japanese cosmetic industry, which helped create American beauty publications, came the talk about the Japanese "beauty secrets" - and just last month wrote about "fasting" Dazed Beauty, Man Repeller, Bustle and many others.

The idea of the company is outrageously simple: for a few days you refuse even basic procedures, including moisturizing and cleansing with hard means, to give the skin a return to the background state, including in terms of sebum production. It is advisable to wash with warm water, but in order to keep the moisture balance, use more liquid. In fact, the new trend is simply not to use anything - not that a revolutionary idea for the real world, but for the beauty industry, and indeed somewhat surprising.

Does it work

Journalists Dazed and Man Repeller note the ambiguous results of the experiment: on the one hand, you have to deal with the dryness of the skin due to the abandonment of the usual mode of care, on the other hand, "fasting" helps to understand that in this very mode it was generally superfluous. Nevertheless, practicing such holidays is not recommended for people with atopic skin, eczema and other conditions, in which case special care is needed. Thus, cosmetic fasting is more likely to suit those whose skin is basically unpretentious and not reactive.

Rather, the psychological effect of such a restriction is interesting: the refusal of cosmetics can help to get used to the appearance of your skin "without everything", and also to find on the shelf products that are used more for comfort rather than benefit. A lot has already been written about the fact that skin can take care of itself, so it is quite possible to “re-moisturize” it - if this is your case, then “starvation” will help to achieve minimalism in care and at the same time save money.

How can I do that

It is difficult to be surprised that the average person will not fall off if you stop smearing it with cream. So if you are interested in trying such austerity, observe minimal hygiene: wash with water (or leave a very mild cleansing), sleep on a clean pillowcase and do not touch your face with dirty hands. And although “fasting” implies that you do not use sanskrin as well, we still advise you not to give it up, because in this case we are talking about the prevention of melanoma and skin cancer.
