Battkini: It seems we are waiting for the return of open panties
a couple of years ago everyone finally agreedthat it is time to stop cheating on big pants. After the brands headed for comfort, the once popular strings were slightly lost against the background of a variety of closed options. However, not for long: a new life was presented to them by pop divas, instagram bloggers and plus-size models. The tendency has crept up not to say suddenly: for example, Niki Minaj is an old fan of such underwear, and a micro-size photo in a bikini constantly flashes in the instagram of Kardashian sisters. We understand how the panties, opening the buttocks, again found themselves in the forefront of fashion.
Return thong
It would be sly to say that thongs and microtrusts have been completely forgotten in recent years. An obvious example is Beyonce: the singer often performs or acts in costumes, the lower part of which opens the buttocks. For example, at a concert in Miami in 2014, she changed several bodysuits with a high hip line, and in the music video "Partition" she tried on an extreme set consisting of almost one straps. Niki Minaj is ahead of his colleague in love for open dresses: various strings have long become her uniform, and not only on the stage. The images associated with the album "Anaconda" are the most noticeable: in the title clip and on the cover, the performer poses and dances in ultra-thin underpants. Nicky's costumes are still interpreted differently: someone as an illustration of the culture of objectivization, and someone as an ode to herself.
The choice of such clothes can be explained by the love of the aesthetics of the first half of the zero, when open dresses were part of the images of hip-hop performers. Take at least the first clip of Rihanna in 2006: a singer in a crop top and low-rise jeans, from which a line of panties looks out, invites bored club members to the dance floor. The singer herself still wears thongs, for example, on the beach. Lady Gaga shares bikini photos on her instagram, while thongs and body parts have always been an important part of her costumes.
How it all began
Thongs appeared at the beginning of the 20th century as a result of the attempt to “cover up” the dancers. In 1939, the mayor of New York decided that during the World Expo, participants in the burlesque show could not perform nude. He decided to dress them, but he didn’t specify what exactly: a set of ropes and a piece of fabric was enough. Such underwear did not stick, so that more or less open models appeared only at the time of the sexual revolution in the 70s. The filming of Helmut Lang in 1975 largely determined the future aesthetics of underwear: swimsuits with deep cuts emphasized the deliberately elongated poses of models Lisa Taylor and Jerry Hall.
For decades, bathing fashion reduced centimeters of fabric, and in the 80s body demonstration prevailed thanks to aerobics: bicycles and a swimsuit became a universal suit for playing sports. How popular were the lessons in the hall, you can judge at least from the frames of the movie "Ideal" in 1985: the instructor performed by Jamie Lee Curtis in a bathing suit with a very high thigh cut is not a thong, but everything goes to that - cheerfully coaching the crowd of charges. High fashion also did not stand aside: it would seem difficult to expect a bikini from the fashion house Chanel, but even Karl Lagerfeld succumbed to the general wave, suggesting bright micromodels in rhinestones for the summer of 1994. And although the sporting mood disappeared, the image of the “ideal” body turned out to be much more tenacious. For a long time, open linen seemed to be intended only for those who have typical model parameters.
The cutouts of the hip became deeper until a thong appeared, logically. Such panties were no longer just underwear, but a detail of the image and statement: they looked out from under jeans on a low waist or dresses with a low slit on the back, as was the case with Paris Hilton, Halle Berry, Christina Aguilera and Gillian Anderson. By the way, the situation when the underpants are peeking out of their clothes has been beaten by Tom Ford at the 1998 show.
What is waiting for a bikini
We have to admit that designers are not yet set to beat completely open underpants, despite the constant flashbacks in the 80s, 90s and 2000s on the runways. Although this season there were exceptions: for example, the New York brand Linder or the brand Chromat. Tom Ford tried to return the silhouettes of the 80s, confining himself to simple lines and deep cuts.
If the thongs return to the wardrobes, it is only due to the instagram stars: the Kardashian sisters, perhaps, are the main popularizers of the Battkini - a swimsuit with slightly more closed panties than the thongs; side by side with them trying on a new version of Bella Hadid and Emily Ratakovski. Plus-size models also come together as one: Ashley Graham, who chose a bright red swimsuit reminiscent of the cult TV series of the 90s, as well as Alice Boniton, can serve as an example. The brand Outdoor Voices can find sports battkini. Panties with thin ropes from the first collections are produced by Marieyat, whose models emphasize the curves of the body.
Today, open underwear gets along well with large closed shorts and sports swimsuits. The return of strings may be logical continuation of the course on the realization of the right to your body. You can wear them simply because such a model of panties goes well with a tight-fitting dress, you can put yourself in underwear in instagram, simply because you like it so much - and you can forever refuse from the string. Lingerie and clothing to their liking make you feel confident - fortunately, finding the right models is now easier than ever.
