Instagram vs school: How I studied makeup
Of course, the first lipstick I had back in schooland in the first and second year I chose the cosmetics myself with pleasure. Nevertheless, despite the love of makeup and the opportunity to work on the set as an assistant make-up artist, until recently I rarely painted myself and did not know that I like to paint on the face. A year and a half ago, I started working as a beauty editor, it provided me with a stream of cosmetics and the need to be able to handle it. Alas, I don’t have enough time and money for full-fledged courses, so I decided to find quick and effective ways to learn makeup. My main task was to learn how to make a nice and interesting make-up to myself, but, like in the process of any training, other results appeared.
To be honest, I don’t like to paint myself for the purpose of "better looking" at all. I live comfortably with good care and lip balm, and I make bright makeup less than ten times a year. If your hands are drawn to decorative cosmetics, then they are necessarily yellow eye shadows, gray lipsticks, eye-gloss, colored mascaras - in general, everything that you need to use is straight growing hands. I do not have these, and I often hurry with makeup. So I began to learn what it consists of, in what order it is applied, what effects can be achieved from certain products and how to combine them. I will say right away: information on the Internet will not be enough. In make-up there is a lot of things that are connected with the work with the hands: how to hold the brush, what movements to do feathering, how to symmetrically outline the lips. Most likely, the leadership of a knowledgeable person will be useful to most lovers.
The most affordable of paid makeup classes are the lessons in the stamps of the stamps. These are at MAC and Bobbi Brown on an ongoing basis: mini-classes are free of charge, individual ones cost from 2000 rubles, which go to pay for food. In MAC, I was taught to paint lips - I must say, well. I bought two dark lipsticks and two pencils that match them in tone, and the makeup artist, sitting down in front of the mirror, showed me step by step what to do with all these objects. I learned to confidently hold my hand and evenly apply color. Helena Krygina’s famous Tutorial did his job further.
Sign up for lessons on the sites of brands, and then go to the store at a convenient time. After the working day it is better not to do this: it is advisable to have time to prepare the skin and be ready to do something. Makeup artists spend a lot of lessons and tell, as a rule, the same things, so it will be more effective not to be ashamed to ask them questions on the subtleties of interest - then you can get the maximum benefit from such non-obligatory classes. From time to time I repeated the technique that the makeup artist showed me at home - most of the makeup skills, as I was convinced, require multiple workouts.
The best option in my opinion is to ask a make-up artist friend to train you in your home format. If this was not the case, then detailed individual lessons can be enrolled in many studios and schools. There will not need to come with your makeup, you will have more time and space than in the corner. The specificity of all schools is different: somewhere they teach basic techniques and basics, somewhere they like experiments - you need to choose based on your own needs and aesthetic preferences.
At one of the lessons I was invited to a solid school ICONFACE: on a May morning in Moscow City, I and several other beauty editors of various publications studied the main techniques of evening and day makeup on Urban Decay cosmetics - with all the variety of textures and shades. In this group format, there are many makeup lessons for yourself: it may be a whole course, but we had one day; for the minimum result is enough. Most of all I was afraid of theoretical calculations about color types and the need to comprehend the basics of contouring, but neither of these things happened. Modern make-up artists are guided by free rules and are unlikely to recommend that you use make-up to “fix” a face. I learned to see the difference between the tonal fundamentals, to accurately gather and shade shadows, but the main thing that happened - I finally realized that you can not rush into make-up. There was enough time, and I spent most of it on looking at my face further or closer, evaluating the symmetry and accuracy of the lines and asking the teacher how to avoid the effects that I did not like.
One more lesson in the structure “ran, learned, went further” can be taken at the Birdie hairdresser, having paid for this an exorbitant amount. In the morning at the barbershop on Rozhdestvensky Boulevard I was met by Anya, very similar to Lisa Eldridge - and even in a similar make-up. I realized that we would get along with my teacher, so I immediately asked for more details on the preparation and “drawing” of the skin with all possible highlights and tints. A couple of hours were enough for us to find a successful concealer and practice it imperceptibly to apply it, patiently shade the tone and get what I expected - fresh make-up in the style of creative director Lancôme.
Self-taught among professional make-up artists is not uncommon, and it is best to quickly learn how to draw on your face from scratch with people with artistic education. I don’t have one, but once there was a lot of free time and interest, so at first I studied everything that you can find for free: beauty blogs, make-up artists books, instagram faces and other sources of inspiration and information.
It all really works: good makeup requires perseverance and imagination, knowledge of the basics, which tell a variety of YouTube stars, and suitable cosmetics. In Russian and foreign blogs, you can read posts on narrower topics, as well as begin to learn to understand the textures and properties of decorative products. I was greatly helped by the ribbon of my instagram and the board on p interest. Three years ago, I started subscribing to interesting make-up artists and saving photos of cool works - now I repeat them in my spare time or take something from peeped ideas for constant use. Alas, what is shown in the beauty blogs, often need to be divided into two, but you can find a lot of simple and beautiful in them, and atypical blogs with a minimum of retouching do not need to be searched in all corners of the Internet. Watching the real professionals is also a good habit: I do not claim the laurels of Isamayi Ffrench, but her works inspire such courage.
Books can also be useful - we have already shown a list of certainly not stupid publications. Usually they look luxurious and cost luxurious money, but as a gift they will be good. All of them are arranged in the same way: detailed diagrams, presentation of the basics, stories about the necessary brushes and basic cosmetic bag. The choice between Bobby Brown and Elena Krygina is, in general, not life-changing: both of them made good aids on the most important techniques and skills. It is unlikely that they will be desktop, but once again make sure that you are doing Smoke-Aiz correctly, or look at the color wheel conveniently.
If you don’t dream of a make-up artist’s career, but you want to perform graphic arrows from New York shows close to the original, you must take the time to study the subject. My story ends with the fact that I had the opportunity to do makeup for a great student performance and not to lose face. In the very same drawing on the face, I continue to practice: I still do not have symmetrical "cat eyes", I do not always guess the color combinations and see on my selfie, where I could add some more important details. And yet makeup is first of all fun: I’m waiting for the moment when I can confidently master all the rules in order to break them properly.
