Thomas Tate was born and raised in Canada. Up to 18, he was afraid to engage in fashion, but still left the comfort zone - and did not lose. After studying at a local school, the young man moved to London and enrolled, of course, at the famous Central Saint Martins fashion college, where he studied with the legendary teacher Louise Wilson, who had recently passed away. In 2010, a Canadian made his debut show of the brand name at London Fashion Week, where, judging by the exclusive report of The Business of Fashion online magazine, came the fashion editors Vogue, Vanity Fair and ELLE, who felt great potential. Since then, he season after season participates in LFW and sells his collections to stores like Dover Street Market and 10 Corso Como. Bayers are attracted to minimalist things with a noticeable influence of sports, made in pure bright colors.
In 2014, the designer entered the short list of LVMH Prize - perhaps the most prestigious competition for the young - along with Hood By Air and Simone Roch. We hope the young man will win the main prize (300,000 euros) and get the support of the French conglomerate. He often admits that 90% of his current problems are financial. Sometimes he does not even sleep or eat, and yet only one person works for him constantly. It is kept afloat by its own business (after all, the Thomas Tait collections are now represented in more than 10 stores around the world) and collaborations with the mass market. For example, he worked with the HUF brand - and after all it’s difficult to imagine a joint line of this minimalist and street brand. From the latest achievements of the designer - participation in the Asia Fashion Exchange program, which helped him show his work to the Japanese press and buyers.
On my way I met many people who supported me. For example, I often spoke with Katie Horin, and she had a noticeable influence on my work process. Now my main problem is the production - I decided to remove the collections in Britain, and this is very expensive, a real headache. But Italian factories have a very large minimum, very heavy for an ordinary young designer. I am glad that now giants like LVMH are interested in newbies like me. They seem to build good relations with us first and immediately understand who has what potential. I would like to work on a big fashion house, but for now I only make my brand. My clothes are clean, she has a clear cut, and most of all I like to experiment with some exaggerated forms - but only slightly.
