Matrix code turned out to be sushi recipes

18 years after the release of the fantastic action movie "The Matrix", production ribbon designer Simon Whiteley finally revealed what was encoded in the array of green numbers that you see in the film.

“It's time to admit: the Matrix code is actually made from Japanese sushi recipes,” the designer said, adding that he scanned the hieroglyphs from his Japanese wife’s culinary book. “Without this code, there would be no Matrix.”

It is believed that the idea for the effect, known as "the digital rain from the Matrix," is borrowed from the titles of the anime Mamoru Hosea "Ghost in the Shell". The name of Whiteley, who programmed the Matrix code, did not appear in the credits of the film.
