Not everyone has a cottage, an air ticket to the sea or at least the strength to get out of the house and go to the park - but you can spend a good summer in an apartment, especially if you have surrounded yourself with nice things. We chose beautiful and useful items that will be useful in the heat and will lift your spirits, even if the real summer weather does not happen.
Fans
The main gadget of summer: they are very cheap and very expensive, compact and bulky, they can simply accelerate the air or change its temperature (it seems that heating will be more useful in the coming months). Whatever you choose - a USB baby that you can carry around with you, or a futuristic Dyson with a lot of extra features and an impressive price - remember about safety. If you have small children or curious animals, it is better to refuse a blade floor fan: you can stick your fingers in the blades and drop the whole structure. So that the device does not buzz, the noise level must be 40 decibels or lower. And remember that you shouldn’t sit right in front of the ventilator, even if you really want to: a strong stream of air dries the skin of the face and the nasopharyngeal mucosa, which almost guarantees a runny nose.
Linens
A good sheet can improve the quality of your life in the heat almost as much as a fan. Now bamboo threads and their combinations with cotton are especially popular: besides obviously natural origin and good moisture and heat conduction, bamboo has a bonus - an antibacterial effect. Another good material is flax, but this is an option for the patient: linen sheets will crumple up a lot, and you will either have to like them crumpled up or iron them after each wash.
Plants
Green friends not only delight the eye and accustom to responsibility, but also purify the air, at the same time slightly lowering the temperature in the room: the more leaves, the more cool moisture is released from their surface. Apartment gardening is a popular hobby among the millennials, so finding a beautiful watering can or a fashionable concrete pot is not at all difficult. For the most lazy owners, there is a self-watering system and ready-made florariums with compositions of unpretentious succulents and mosses.
Everything for the balcony
Since you are not in the country, you can arrange a branch of a summer house on a balcony or at least arrange a cozy place for reading near an open window. Most likely, you will need additional seating - it’s good if it is foldable or compact, such as the inflatable Urban Outfitters chair, which you can take with you to the beach. It is not necessary to do serious repairs: it is enough to hang boxes with flowers on the railing or to put a folding table with a beautiful tablecloth - and the balcony will turn into a pleasant place for breakfast or dinner in the air.
Crockery and cutlery
Bowls and cups are broken, cracked and lost during the year, which means that new dishes are unlikely to be superfluous - especially if you are going on a picnic and want to eat from your own porcelain plates, like the British aristocrats. You can get by with a basic set of a cooler bag and a convenient corkscrew, or you can take with you a whole set of services - the main thing is to get lucky with the weather.
