Baroque rings, chokers and not only: What jewelry to wear this winter

Properly chosen decoration can instantly turn the image upside down (in a good way) - it is known to all who have ever experienced the effect of catchy earrings or a large necklace worn with a plain white t-shirt and jeans. If the choice is made correctly, no additional effort will be needed, because pendants, necklaces, bracelets and rings will take on the role of main accents, and the clothing itself can be simple and neutral.

Today, there are two exactly opposite approaches to the choice of jewelry in the trend: "new comfort", which implies comfortable, inconspicuous jewelery such as thin chains and minimalistic brooches, and exaggerated redundancy - large rings on each finger, chokers, earrings on shoulders and other risky accessories. We tell in more detail about which jewelry in fashion today will not lose its relevance next year, and also explain with what it is best to combine them and what nuances to pay attention to.

Brooches in the autumn-winter shows were literally everywhere and, judging by the spring-summer, remain with us for a long time. All different: small amber stones from Michael Kors, bulky flowers from Prada, neat pins from Marni, surrealist beaded eyes from Gucci, shiny rhinestones from Rochas. They are hung on the lapels of jackets, they are enlivened by simple white T-shirts and silk blouses. There are almost no restrictions on combinations. It is worth remembering: the rougher the fabric, the better it will be bulky, abstract decorations from a variety of materials, but the basic tops will endure everything - both thin graceful brooches and big blind stones are equally good on them. It’s better to leave ironic “plot” brooches for suits with strict shirts - they immediately change accents and make the image more relaxed. A brilliant catchy brooch can also be pinned to a scarf or a warm coat — quite an idea for a boring winter.

Even if your work on the study of trends is limited to a cursory review of the main page of Vogue.com once a season, you have hardly noticed that for a year now the designers have stopped loving the paired sets of earrings. Now on the catwalks with enviable regularity appear girls in earrings, a pair of which is not implied at all - remember at least the spring-summer show Loewe (weighty mirror plate almost to the shoulder, one thing). Slightly less extreme option - similar in style and color, but still different earrings, like Marni. If we are not talking about such lofty matters, then every second young brand now offers unsuited earrings - both one and two. It looks especially good with hair removed from the face, and very cool - with short haircuts.

The aesthetics of the universe of Alessandro Michele is based on a nuclear mix of vintage clothing, sparkles, gender ambivalence and juggling with different eras. In general, the designer walks on thin ice, but so far copes more than successfully - he added sophisticated massive rings to blouses with bows and Gucci boasters, which are equally mixed with baroque, Victorian and rock and roll, so it’s not clear who more likely to put them on — court dame, Mick Jagger or Jack Sparrow (he loved this). Combining such rings with gold biker gloves, as in the show, we advise not to undertake, but with thin blouses, flowing dresses and even simple shirts, they will look moderately dramatic. You can choose suitable rings even for 600 rubles (three pieces at once) - all mass market brands have options for every taste.

Passion for romantic moods inspired designers to show tiaras, tiaras and headbands in spring-summer collections. They advise to wear a tiara, which was once regarded as an exclusively festive and ironic detail, with the most ordinary things - no floor-length dresses and “royal” facial expressions. Quite the contrary: Eddie Sliman’s models with crowns on her head in nightie dresses and rubber boots looked like the current version of Marla from Fight Club, and Nicolas Ghesquière made tiaras for Louis Vuitton from the other world, as if calling on her forehead - not for Princess Leia (from the topical), not for Galadriel. If such a decoration seems too bold to you, you should pay attention to unusual rims and combs - say, such.

Chokers, to put it mildly, the trend is not new: two years ago, everyone went crazy over the smooth metal necklace Maison Margiela, last summer sang with love for a nostalgic look woven chokers from the nineties, and in this (and, by the way, next) year, they switched to a necklace, who pull all the attention to themselves. The most vivid example is Balmain: for the sponsored brand Olivier Rousten cast sculpted “collars” from golden metal, partially covering the neck and collarbone. His antagonist - Raf Simons - for his latest collection in the role of creative director Christian Dior came up with textile chokers, which need to wear thin hoops with one large colored crystal. Do not limit yourself and choose any version of this simple but effective decoration. The only thing we strongly recommend to avoid is a choker in combination with a very deep neckline (especially for owners of large breasts).

Historically, the string of pearls is such an age accessory, which is associated with elegance, status and much more, but not with fashion. However, with the right approach, you can breathe a second life into anything. The driving force here was, of course, Karl Lagerfeld, who dressed the girls in Chanel pearls from head to toe (and didn’t surprise anyone) - he was especially successful in multi-layered necklaces with metal details. On the Salvatore Ferragamo show, the girls came out in very beautiful minimalist earrings with large pearls on a long chain, in Sacai they limited themselves to one single pearl-stud, and in all respects the atypical Balenciaga spring-summer collection has weightless earrings with pearls for those who love everything romantic We summarize: this tendency does not rehabilitate the string of pearls as such, but offers many other options. If we choose one, then we are behind a thin silver chain with a single pearl on it.

The fashion is not just jewelry with natural stones, but even more - with untreated and very large natural ethnic stones in a minimalist frame - like Hermès. If this is too much for you, you may want to look at the pendant stones like the ones made by Jambattista Valli: because of the difference in the volume of the pendant itself and the thin chain, the mineral looks floating in the air. Bottega Veneta has the most benign option: this Italian brand has supposedly raw stones inscribed in jewelry of more usual sizes. And although in the podium images such necklaces quite organically coexist with prints and complex multi-layered sets, in life we advise you to rely on Hermès: smooth fabrics and a minimum of additional details.

Hundreds of drop-down chains is another not new, but very effective reception, and we are glad that it has again interested designers. In Chanel, the chains are interspersed with pearl strands, in Calvin Klein Collection they get a frame shape and are worn right over the dress like a weightless top, while in Nina Ricci they turn into a sort of flowing cuffs - and this option seems to us the most beautiful.

Infantile images in the spirit of the "girl elf" is a rather dangerous topic, and only the sisters of Mullavi from Rodarte manage to cope with her from season to season. Therefore, when in a couple of months the shelves of the shops with accessories will be filled with hairpins like those that everyone wore at school, be guided by the models from the show of this particular American brand. Stylists invented to decorate loose hair in a completely random order: Rodarte hairpins and removed the strands from the face, located just above eye level, and crowned the girls' heads like mini-crowns when they were fastened directly over the parting. Both options are good, and you can experiment with them right now - low-cost options are already sold in stores. This is very opportunely: hairpins with a scattering of crystals will become a boring alternative to classic jewelry for a New Year's party. In ordinary life, they also have the right to exist, especially bright and shiny hairpins look with elegant costumes.

Here it is short: everything must be gigantic. To be more precise - indecently large. And strange. Why not wear a huge golden fish around your neck? What are bad earrings that lie on their shoulders? Or earrings in the form of gigantic disco balls made of large sequins? This trend is for courageous people who can figure out proportions and place accents. And for anyone who is willing to take the risk - in this case it is worth starting with the usual jewelry, like huge necklaces. In this case, let the accessories solo: let the clothes be as neutral as possible, and make-up minimalistic.
