Australian Oats: 70s Silk Blouses and Dresses

IN THE WEEKLY RUBRIC "NEW MARK"we present young designers and tell them where and why to buy their things. Our heroes this week are Breede and Julie Davy, the creators of the Oats brand.

New sexuality has little to do with the one from which everyone got tired in the 2000s. Tights in a grid, skirts and trousers with unusual cuts, tops, opening shoulders and stomach, - the echoes of the era have returned, but today all this designers combine with frankly sports things, clothing of gigantic sizes, mules on a flat sole, sneakers and a calm base. At the same time, hardly anyone can reproach the brands Rosie Assoulin or Ryan Roche, which are headed for comfort, with a lack of revealing things. But their sexuality is not on display - it is calm and delicate.

One of the new and relatively inexpensive brands that also fall into the category of “new sexuality” is the Australian Oats the Label, founded by designer Bridi Davy and her mother Julie. They work together in a home studio, all things are sewn by hand, and there are no third-party employees except a PR agent. Now the brand works only on pre-orders - they simply don’t have ready-made out of stock items. Thus, waste-free production is obtained. Social responsibility is the cornerstone of the Oats; what is really important to Breedy and Julie Davy.

In total, Oats the Label has released three collections: all things are mainly made of silk and flax. Breedi admits that the materials themselves and their various textures became the starting point of the first collection. And to create a brand Davy podvigli friends: "I came up with what they and I would have worn in the first place." Bridi confesses that she immediately decided to work with her mother: Julie has a lot of experience - she started sewing clothes at the age of 17 and always sheathed Breed and her sister. "My mother is my best friend, and I like to spend time with her. Oats brought us even closer. Our studio is in my parents' house where I grew up. There are lots of trees and very quiet - the working atmosphere is just perfect."

The latest collection of the brand is extremely practical and fits easily into any wardrobe. A large role in it is played by juicy colors: scarlet, mustard, beige and dark green. The designer does not hide that he is interested in art - in the last work one can see references to the works of Matisse, Juan Miro and even Ani Kras. Silk robes, transparent turtlenecks, blouses with bare shoulders and huge sweaters look interesting in any combination. The entire collection is homage to the 70th, the sexiest decade. And it is no coincidence.

Sometimes my mother and I work seven days a week - this is, of course, cool, but very exhausting, none of us have time for another job. We would like to have more days in the week so we can relax. Soon we are going to expand. I would like to preserve the ethics of production, but to process a greater number of orders.
