Huge Hoodie: The basic thing on the cutting edge of fashion
WE CONSIDER THE TRENDS FROM PODIUM, which can be adapted for your wardrobe for the next six months. Designers have long been inspired by sports style and street-wear clothing. One of the things that has recently been elevated to the cult is a simple sweatshirt with a hood, which is advised to wear not only with sweatpants or leggings, but also with printed dresses, vinyl skirts and wide silk trousers. We explain with examples why hoodie has become so popular.
How it all began
To say when the first prototype hoodie appeared in the world is impossible for obvious reasons, but what is interesting is. In the Middle Ages, a modest set of clothes of European monks included a robe and a hood, which were remotely similar to those sweaters with a hood of a deliberately large size, which are regularly shown on the catwalks. Their clothes were due to the same needs as they are today: the desire for protection, isolation and isolation from society.
Hoodie appeared in the form in which we got used to it, for a rather prosaic reason. It is believed that the company Champion (whose popularity, by the way, has increased significantly in recent years) in the early 30s of the last century decided to launch a cotton sweatshirt and sew a hood on it to protect the brand’s customers (at that time athletes and workers) from rain and snow. Hoodies were worn and students involved in sports, in particular American football. They began to share them with their girls. So the younger generation began to wear hoodie, not only in training, but also in everyday life.
Nevertheless, the hoodies did not start to be worn everywhere until the 1970s. The rules of the game changed the graffiti artists and hip-hopers in New York, for whom anonymity was important. The franchise about boxer Rocky Balboa with Sylvester Stallone in the lead role, released in 1976, also contributed to the popularity of the hoodie. Associations with sports and street life did not prevent designer Norma Camally in the 80s from becoming one of the first to make hudie part of high fashion. In the 90s, the fashion for sportswear and, in particular, the hoodie was supported by designers who were looking for inspiration in street culture - Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren and Giorgio Armani.
In 2012, hoodie became a real symbol of protest. A sad excuse was the killing of a teenager in Khudi by a people's warrior, he claims, in order to defend himself. This caused a huge public outcry in the United States, since the killer was not punished. In honor of solidarity with the protesters, musicians, sportsmen and, of course, politicians put on hoods.
How hoody are back in fashion
Today, a hoodie is a basic thing that can both say a lot about its owner (the denial of mass culture, the desire to protect themselves in a big city, hide and dissolve in a crowd of passersby), and not say anything at all about it. The love of hoody is associated primarily with the tendency to hyper-dimensions, which have not disappeared anywhere for the fourth consecutive season.
Deliberately volumetric hoody with specially long sleeves is a sign of the time, which is supported by a huge number of designers. One of those to whom it owes its insane popularity today is Demna Gvasalia. Countdown can be carried out, starting with the first collection of his brand Vetements. The idea of perceiving a sweatshirt with a hood as a symbol of anonymity is especially close to pop performers - perhaps that is why it is in every Fenty by Puma and Yeezy collection. Speaking about the men's lines, it is impossible not to mention Gosha Rubchinsky, whose hoodies are inscribed and without insane success.
What to wear
It is difficult to say what to wear with hoodie is not recommended: with classic things like coats and midi skirts, and with near-sports like trousers with stripes and down jackets, they can look equally good. The main thing is to keep the proportions. Here the same rule applies as with other multi-layered images: under hoods it is better to wear something that is thinner than it, and on top of that that is more voluminous.
Hoodie can be worn with flared pants, as in the Rihanna or Off-White fashion show, and with pajama pants, as on Alexander Wang. Monochrome Hoodie - this is also a choice for those who want to reduce the degree of pathos of an elegant dress, to come to work at it, and then to go to a party.
It is also worth saying that next spring and summer, we are waiting for a new trend for dresses with hoods, which in fact are all the same hoodie, only larger. You can already wear them on their own, without skirts or trousers. In quality you can choose either ankle boots or sneakers - as suggested by Yeezy and DKNY.
