Outlaw Moscow: Bright coats inspired by Roerich's paintings
IN THE WEEKLY RUBRIC "NEW MARK" Wonderzine presents young designers and tells where and how you can buy their things. Our heroes this week are Maxim Bashkaev and Dilyara Minrakhmanova, the founders of the Moscow brand outlaw Moscow, creating colorful and laconic coats inspired by Roerich’s paintings.
Clothing brand Maxim and Dilyara launched at the end of 2014. The guys are engaged in all questions from design and drawing to production and sales. Both designers do not have specialized education, but have always been interested in fashion. They studied politics, business, art and architecture, and also spent a lot of time in China. The idea to create a brand came to Dilara, who sewed a lot and designed independently. According to the guys, they are inspired by the work of Georgian and Japanese designers, the collections of Umberto Leon and Carol Lim for Kenzo, as well as Acne things.
The first collection of Maxim and Dilyara decided to build around the colorful and concise coats of direct cut, which were created under the impression of nature and Roerich's paintings. outlaw moscow produces men's and women's things, dividing the directions among themselves. Images of the volcano were put on the men's coat, and waves and mountains on the women's coat. Designers say they like to draw, and the clothes for them are like paintings. The guys sew all things in a small production in Tatarstan, and they buy fabrics (wool, viscose and camel fur) in Moscow. In addition to the coat, the designers released a small New Year's capsule with tops and pencil skirts made of shiny fabrics. In the next collection are planning to include down jackets, trench coats, dresses and shirts.
The brand name outlaw has several meanings for us. On the one hand, this characterizes the Russian order and the way things are done here. On the other hand, it means a personal protest against the gray reality, beyond which, we hope, our buyer wants to get out. Our things are for open, free-spirited and creative people. We would like the word outlaw to describe a new Moscow street style at some point. Our goal is to build a high-quality Russian brand that would be recognized in the world. Kenzo is, of course, a high bar, but we would like to reach it across the country. And so far everything is going well. We recently won a grant from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia and present our brand at Fashion Week in March.
