Classic and sporty Harbison style
IN THE WEEKLY RUBRIC "NEW MARK" Wonderzine presents young designers and tells where and how you can buy their things. Our hero this week is Charles-Elliot Harbison, who was inspired to create clothes by his own mother.
Harbison collections are built on a combination of sports style and features of classic clothes. Thus, the designer combines shirts with pencil skirts, coats with coats and caps, and in his spring-summer collection of two, the two in a cage coexist with short silk tops and wide trousers with puffs at the bottom. The young American considers his cut and cut as color and color and, judging by the collections and eulogies of Style.com, Vogue and WWD publications, he has no problems with them.
Charles-Elliot was born in the town of Lonkolton, North Carolina. The interest in fashion in it was developed by mom (remember a similar story with Simon-Port Jakmus). After graduation, he decided to study art and textiles at North Carolina State University, and then went to Asia for a year to study the local textile industry. Then there were internships with Michael Kors and Kate Spade, another year of study at Parsons school and already full-time work as a female designer at Michael Kors, as well as at Billy Reid and Luca Luca. Earlier this year, Harbison launched a name brand that is based in Brooklyn. He will show the third collection in February.
I was always drawn to beauty. Mom likes to tell that when I put toys around my house in a certain order as a child, and she or dad wanted to remove them, I started to make trouble. Haha The love of beauty and interest in art and science pushed me to study architecture, but when I learned about the course of fashion design, I immediately sold myself to him. I quickly realized that this was what I needed: I really like to think about a combination of different shapes and colors, so I even scientifically approach the cut of clothes. I initially trained in the Michael Kors men’s division, which definitely helped to better understand the design and the industry as a whole. Director Paul Zumbo wrote a good recommendation about my work there, and I managed to get into the women's clothing department of MK, where I sharpened a tooth as a female designer. I am inspired by women who are in love, and make my heroine look like my mother: in the 1980s she wore men's suits, but at the same time was very elegant. I create clothes for women who love the style of sport and combine it with classics, costumes or brogues. I love fashion for the fact that it allows you to tell the world what you are, using only clothes. Of course, there are a lot of problems in the industry, but I try to offer my own solution to each one. It is very difficult to get through, so I will try to find a balance between creativity and business.
