Designer Riya Keburiya: Avant-gardism, Georgia and golden crowns

Under the heading "Fresh Blood", we present young professionals who have not yet become familiar in the pages of magazines, but will certainly have time to do this in the near future. Our heroine today is Ria Keburiya, a designer based in the French capital, who creates asymmetrical dresses with pleated inserts and hats with beads and stones.

A designer with Georgian roots, Riya Keburiya, while studying at the sociological department of Moscow State University, knew that she would be engaged in creative work. But the realization of the form in which she wants to be realized came to the girl when she moved to France. There she studied marketing at American University of Paris and at the same time began her studies at the International Fashion Academy in the field of clothing design.

Last season, Riya Keburia made her debut at the Ukrainian Fashion Week in Kiev, and she presented her second collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia in Moscow. “In Kiev, it was great. Then I didn’t have ties with Moscow. And the MBFWR contributions were great. And at the Ukrainian Fashion Week everything seemed to be simpler,” Keburia shares with us. “It was my first collection: I was completely inexperienced and the three hundred-person space seemed enormous to me. And Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia was the second serious step to success. " According to the designer, in her debut collection she interprets elements of the national Georgian costume in her own way. Here you can find everything: from traditional aprons to wedding dresses, crowns and headdresses of flowers.

In the article by Luke Leitch from The Telegraph, where he shares his impressions of the past MBFWR, it is noted that the second show by Ria Keburia looks resonant against the background of numerous commercially oriented brands. With a journalist can not disagree. The girl is not afraid to go beyond and shows skirts and pants with corrugated details, brogues on the frames, resembling geisha shoes, and hats are an unusual interpretation of kokoshniki. "This collection was just a way of expressing my dissatisfaction with commercial clothing," says the designer about her latest collection. After two shows, Riya Keburia’s clothes aroused the interest of Lady Gaga’s stylist: judging by the designer’s Instagram photo, the singer will be performing in her dress. The official website of the Ria Keburia brand, where it will be possible to purchase the girl’s clothes and accessories, will soon work.

"My brand is based in Paris, and I face many difficulties: finance, taxes, agents, and much more that every designer who enters the European market should be familiar with," said Ceburia. But in addition to the formal difficulties associated with the establishment of a brand name, Rii at first had to put up with the disapproval of parents. “At first, they didn’t relate to what I was doing. But after the first show in Kiev and the violent reaction of the press, my family seemed to be interested. And when I was invited to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia, my family became secretly proud. But they are happy not to the fact that I am a designer and make art clothes, but to the fact that I found myself and there were good reviews for that. "
