Katya Sutormina, co-founder of the showroom Holy Retro

RECENTLY WE TOLDwhat is vintage, how it differs from second-hand and how things are with it in Russia, and also listed 10 rules for handling vintage now. It is impossible not to notice that over the past two years, a dozen vintage projects have appeared of a completely different format: from online stores to studios, where they come by personal recording, and showrooms. Many of them take part in the Lambada market specializing in vintage (and not only), the new season of which will take place this weekend, December 21 and 22, in the Tsvetnoy department store. We asked several of them about what is happening with the vintage in Moscow, why they like things from past eras and how to wear them in 2013.

I think there are no special rules for wearing vintage: you need a sense of proportion

Attitude towards vintage has changed even over the past two years. People finally realize that vintage and second-hand are not the same thing. It's nice that there are alternatives to the "Freak Break". Oldich is definitely the most attractive for me, in many respects because the guys perform some educational function, teaching all people around that vintage is beautiful, interesting and unusual. Among our friends there were neither fans nor opponents of vintage, well, except that my sister always wears vintage. When we started making a shop, the opinions of close people began to change. We asked our friends to shoot for the lookbook, and each one went away from shooting in one of the dresses.

About a year ago, Sasha Mingzhia, my companion, once again came from London and said that she finds pretty vintage dresses much more than she needs. And the search for cool things, as it turned out, is more interesting than a purchase. I understood her. We looked at the reaction to the things that we buy, and decided to try to bring dresses for friends - so we opened our store. From the very beginning, we decided that we would bring only dresses. First, the dress is always beautiful, and secondly, the dress itself is self-sufficient. Winter literally made us look at good-quality woolen sweaters, which, as usual, we first bought for ourselves. The secret idea of the project, as one acquaintance successfully formulated, was the style of “library chic” - conservatism and the 1970s. When choosing clothes, we focused on ourselves, and it works. Sasha loves London very much and is looking for things there. We often go to Barcelona, where my sister lives, and bring things from there. At some point, we were fascinated by the Victorian style and the brand Gunne Sax; looking for things helps us girlfriend from Boston.

Sasha often takes dresses for her collection: for example, she has a real dress of English prisoners of the 1970s. It is quite beautiful. I also like the wedding dress of my favorite brand Gunne Sax - I wear it in summer. On every market, girls strive to take it off me, to pick it up. I think there are no special rules for wearing vintage: you need a sense of proportion. This may be a challenge, and a game of ages and styles, but we must not forget about naturalness. Remember that vintage items are primarily unique pieces of clothing, often made by hand. Often you can not be afraid to meet a girl in the same dress or in the queue at Krispy Kreme, or at a party.
