Tourist chic: fashion on "unfashionable"

We tell about the trends from the podiumthat can be adapted for your wardrobe in the next six months. This time we are considering the trend of “tourist chic”, which was previously considered to be the apogee of unfashionableness - now this image is copied by famous fashion brands and proudly wear celebrities like Shiai Labafa, Kendall Jenner and Haley Baldwin. We tell how comfortable kitsch re-entered the fashion.

How it all began

Last year, we already told why trends are created by those who ignore them, and this year we only continue to be convinced of this. If earlier tourists in “ugly” sneakers, Hawaiian shirts, panamas and bags around their necks were more puzzling than delighted, and the Internet was full of headlines like “Don't look like a tourist” - now everyone put on their waist bags at once, and the brands started producing them .

Many of the “tourist” attributes did not immediately migrate to the wardrobes of city dwellers - for example, the same massive sneakers left sports stadiums only in the 1980s, and they used to wear lunches in their waist bags, and not their wallets and house keys — they came up with a functional purpose skiers in the 1970s. The Panamanians, however, were only called upon to protect their masters from the rain — so they fit perfectly in their pockets. However, all these things were united by the main feature - functionality. And only Hawaiian shirts created for American tourists in the mid-1930s, people around the world still use about the same principle - to remind them of their summer holidays.

How tourists have ceased to be "unfashionable"

In 2018, it is possible to distinguish a tourist from a local amateur Balenciaga only by map and confused look. Recently, a comical situation has developed around the French brand, when a New York souvenir company accused Balenciaga of borrowing the design of a popular bag with the words "New York City". But not only Demna Gvasalia drew attention to tourists: voluminous hoodies with the inscription "Russia" could be seen at the Gosha Rubchinsky show (this was recently surprised Russian fans and model Hayley Baldwin), Gucci released a sweater with a huge British flag, not forgetting about a Hawaiian shirt , and the waist bags became the main accessory of the last season at all - they could be seen not only in Gucci, but also in Sportmax, Marc Jacobs and in anyone. Transparent Panama and altogether sneaked into the collection of Chanel.

According to a tip from designers to functional and comfortable things, formerly considered the prerogative of the anti-fashion "daddy-style", today's main celebrities are also addicted: Kendall Jenner comes out with a Louis Vuitton belt bag, Kim Kardashian is wearing bicycles, windbreakers and sneakers on a warm sock, and vice Farfetch, President of Creative Content Creation, Yasmin Sewell, with his own example, demonstrates how to tailor a Hawaiian shirt to a close-knit wardrobe. The same Hawaiian shirt, so beloved by Justin Bieber lately, played an excellent joke with him - all the fashion media now sort out his new style in parts and praise him for his ability to combine slippers and a shirt with a palm print.

How to wear it

Separately, it is worth mentioning the "city merch". It is not necessary to buy a Balenciaga sweatshirt with the inscription "New York" (by the way, actress Diana Kruger perfectly demonstrated how to combine it with high heels). Pay attention to traveling when traveling: a T-shirt with the emblem of Vilnius or a cap with the inscription "I love Prague" are quite capable of making your autumn wardrobe a bit more interesting.

There are no prohibitions in the "tourist chic": paradoxically, but the more demonstrative your denial of any tendencies, the more "trendy" you are. A good example of this is Shia Labauf, whose careless wardrobe is dedicated to a whole instagram account, collecting likes of well-known fashion industry representatives, including stylist David Vayndvol, right hand man Raf Simons Peter Muller from Calvin Klein, editor-in-chief of Purple Olivier Zame and others. We advise you to follow the example of Shayi and wear shyly all the comfortable things at once: the windbreaker, and trekking boots, and the waist bag.

For stricter exits you can always choose one thing - the same belt bags are available not only in acid colors, but also in more elegant aesthetics, like Salvatore Ferragamo - you can come to work with this, and you can take it with yourself for a festive dinner.
