Active position: 5 sites about male feminism
Sonya Batovrina
Feminism - the movement for equal rights for men and women, which causes a lot of misunderstanding for both the first and second. The main misconception is that feminists are men-haters propagandizing the ideology of female superiority. Male feminism is an even more mysterious matter, one name seems absurd. No matter how strange it may seem, men have often helped women win the battle for equality - and the rights won by women made the lives of men better and more pleasant in many respects. We have selected some important resources and blogs that are led by feminist men and should be bookmarked for world peace. If all this does not convince you - Ryan Gosling considers himself a feminist, how 'bout that.
XY online
This pro-feminist site is trying to involve men as much as possible in building a gender-equal society. Let's face it, this is not the most beautiful site in the world, but there are excellent texts on it: from an essay about sexism in punk music to a blog about sexual abuse. The task of the site is to normalize the relations of the sexes and try to make the world of men more comfortable: they say a lot about the fact that despite the individuality, everyone has similar problems, and you should not drive yourself into gender. Well, they raise fundamental topics - for example, how to be a good father, husband, and citizen.
Byron hurt
An excellent example, breaking stereotypes about feminists. In the past, Byron Hurt is a defender of a university football team and a hip-hop fan. And these are two masculine things that don't seem to fit in with feminism. Somehow he manages to combine all this and clearly demonstrate that belief in gender equality is perhaps the most courageous thing a man can do. Among other things, Hurt writes books, actively acts as an anti-sexist, reads lectures, removes documentaries and gets prizes for them. For example, his documentary "Hip-Hop: Besides Beats and Rhymes" was included in the program of the Sundance Film Festival. He also led a series of programs about short documentaries shot by New York teenagers. In general, a person is clearly trying to make our lives better.
Upworthy
Amazingly crazy and entertaining site. Maybe this is not a one hundred percent distilled male feminism, but very close to that. Its authors actively struggle with the negative image of women, which many media are trying to cultivate and impose. Simply put, they write about socially significant topics that concern everyone. What does not contribute to the idea of equality in the world?
Thomas Page McBee
Thomas McBee is the Vice expert on “masculinity”, columnist for the New York Times, The Rumpus and BuzzFeed. The most curious thing about male feminism is that these guys understand that in order to have equal rights, you need to start from yourself. What does it mean to be a man now? What does "masculinity" mean? And how should a man interact with the opposite sex? Thomas writes in an easy and understandable manner - after his text there is a feeling that you spoke with a friend. Gradually you come to understand the feelings and thoughts of men who are not so very different from ours. A selection of Thomas's publications can be read here.
Hugo schwyzer
Hugo Schweiser is the most famous feminist on this list, the author and speaker who has been teaching gender history at Pasadena College since 1993. He is also a columnist for Jezebel and The Atlantic and has a personal blog for several years. But most of all he is known as a junky boy from a famous photograph taken 15 years ago. The most shocking moment of his biography is an attempt to commit suicide and kill his ex-girlfriend with gas during alcohol and drug trafficking. Faced with undue attention and hatred (hellnohugo.tumblr.com is even dedicated to him, he decided to give up journalism - you can read about all this in his interview for NY Mag.
