Blogger Kaylee Flyte about favorite outfits
FOR RUBBER "WARDROBE"we take pictures of beautiful, original or strangely dressed people in their favorite things and ask them to tell related stories. This week our heroine is a blogger and illustrator Kaylee Flyte from Portland. She spoke about the findings from the Walt Disney World amusement park, the love of mermaids and ice cream, the bad weather in Oregon, and the style of the 50s.
My image is 100% cotton candy and a declaration of love in pop culture: here there are Technicolor musicals, mermaids and desserts. I am inspired by the films "What A Way to Go!", "Les demoiselles de Rochefort", "Blade Runner", "Top Hat", "Cabaret", "The Boyfriend", musicians from Michael Jackson and Kimbra to Niki Minaj, and also Disney cartoons like The Little Mermaid. I buy all my stuff in online stores: Hello Holiday, Emerging Thoughts, ASOS and ModCloth, as well as on eBay and Etsy. I can not imagine my wardrobe without color and colors. But I like monochrome black and white outfits too. As if I came out of a musical of the 30s or 60s.
Blouse Forever 21, Skirt Choies, tights Urban Outfitters, ballet flats Thrifted
Usually I don’t wear things of such a limited color palette, but it is the simplicity of this outfit that makes it extremely elegant. Blouse Forever 21 - one of my favorites. Her collar resembles a sailor suit, and she goes well with a midi skirt, and black simple Thrifted slippers are designed for this outfit. They are probably the most versatile shoes in my wardrobe - this is a must-have for everyone.
Crop Top Samantha Pleet, Forever 21 shorts, Klear Klutch clutch, Missguided headband, ASOS shoes
This Crop Top is a gift from the very talented designer Samantha Pleet. On the day I went to the post office for a package, I was in a bad mood. Exactly until the moment I opened the box from Samantha, where among the posh catalog with lookbook and artificial flowers lay this crop top from this year’s spring collection. I was overjoyed: she shared her magic with me. Perhaps this idea seems trivial, but I like to wear this top with a crown of flowers and present myself as Persephone, the goddess of spring!
Blouse Forever 21, skirt American Apparel, shoes Glitter Wedges
In general, I am a rather shy person. The very idea of wearing something that attracts everyone’s attention scares me. But in the last couple of years I have learned to be bolder in choosing clothes. Now, instead of diving into thoughts of fear and other people's opinions, I wear what I like with my head held high. Even if older ladies look at me with disapproval! Now I like transparent things and light fabrics, so I am crazy about transparent blouses. I ordered a shiny pair of heels at one of my favorite online stores, Hello Holiday.
Candie's Shoes Vintage Bomber Jacket, Forever 21 Dress, Socks DIY, Boots, ASOS Goggles
I am greatly inspired by the past. For example, the style of rockabilly, which I present in my own way. A bomber jacket is an element of the 50s school uniform, but the Disney appliqué on his back brings my image closer to the 90s. I must say that the pink bomber jacket is my pride and a big surprise. The jacket was presented to me by a close friend, Laurent, who bought it at the amusement park "Walt Disney World". The app with the Disney princesses awakens in me the nostalgia of childhood.
Missguided dress, clip-on collar, Sweet & Lovely Ice Cream, DIY socks, Candie's Shoes
I liked this dress for its clean cut lines, its simplicity and pastel pink color - of course, my favorite. In addition, the dress has a stunning tight collar. Usually I attach clips to him in the form of ice cream, as well as wear a dress with white socks, which I sew on frills.
Crop top Forever 21, Lazy Oaf shorts, Chicwish boots
I like to find new brands, original and cute. These Lazy Oaf shorts are from the same category as the transparent shoes with pink soles. We in Oregon, and especially in Portland, it rains almost all year round and the weather is gloomy, so you just can't do without such shoes. In addition, they resemble my muse, the heroine of the cartoon "Jetsona" - Judy Jetson.
LGifted dress, shoes and Kling bag, Oasap tights
This image is inspired by the board game "Candy Land". I like Technicolor-style graphics and prints, like these little clouds on shoes and bags. Pantyhose remind me of stripes on caramel. The dress is made of beautiful foamy lace in three layers of pastel shades. It is especially valuable to me, because it is a gift from a friend Marlene.
Scarf ModCloth, Forever 21 cardigan, Choies skirt, Thrifted ballet flats
A cherry cardigan and a black pencil skirt - this outfit refers to a retro one that I love. Then I also did my hair in the style of the 50s and knitted a scarf with strawberries.
Sugarhill Boutique Dress, Meadham Kirchhoff x Topshop Socks, Chicwish Shoes
My friend Roanne described this outfit as "vintage Barbie from an ice cream parlor of the 50s." The combination of mint color with a print in the form of milkshakes and retro-siluet, not to mention the necklines and lace-up on the back, makes the dress one of my favorites. I tenderly love the design duet of Meadham Kirchhoff for many years, so I bought myself socks from the collaboration collection with Topshop as soon as they appeared in the store in December last year.
ASOS Lady Petrova Dress
Sparkling petrol fabric, minimalistic cut, V-neck on the back, pearl buttons - Lady Petrova dress is one of the most outstanding things in my wardrobe. It reminds of mermaids and seashells that inspire me greatly. Put on a dress with her favorite silver ballet shoes from the ASOS store.
Accessories collection
I always support young artists and designers, buying all sorts of little things on Etsy. There are a lot of things: Tiny Tangerines bunny rabbit brooch, The Albino Hare cat mermaid brooch, I Love Crafty watermelon jewelery, Fatally Feminine Designs wool candy, Tiny Hands ice frost ring, Pop But Cassette butterfly , Mikomi Accessories Princess Gum brooch, Wishcandy, Cinderella brooch and Barbie keychain.
Shoe collection
I always choose shoes with some outstanding element. It can be an unusual color, glitter, sequins, transparent materials or cute prints.
Sunglasses Collection
A year ago, I saw chamomile glasses in one magazine and decided that I needed to immediately find the same ones. I did not wait - I did it myself. In general, I like kitsch glasses, especially in the form of hearts (the upper ones from River Island, the lower ones - Fred Flare) and with glitter (Glitter Cat Eye).
