Sneakerhead from New York: Chris Graves on his collection of sneakers
Fashion Passion is a stream about the most sincere form of fashion dependence: collecting. The materials of the stream include the most interesting collections of London and New York and the latest trends in fashion capitals of the world.Materials prepared with the support of eBay - the world's main shopping platform for those who follow the fashion. |
I grew up in New York in the 1990s. Today sneakers are just as important for us as they were then - nothing says so much about the prestige of the owner. My collection began with a fervent desire to buy a pair of Jordans - when they were first released, I had no money. But I could only begin to collect the collection when I began to work and live independently. 8 years have passed since hardcore collecting. I usually have about 50 pairs at a time. Periodically, I sell a couple to buy a new one. Friends have become accustomed that I always have fun with a new pair of sneakers whenever they meet me.
The latest trend in the sneaker fashion is the "preppie" models: discreet, elegant sneakers. Now I rarely meet really wild sneakers in New York - I think people have become more conservative about their choices. Maybe we just grew up. Continuing trend is the re-release of models. Such sneakers (Nike Foamposite, Jordan) are now on the wave - and have been on it for some time. The basic models, designed in a new way each time, remain popular: Chuck Taylor All Star, Jack Purcell, Vans. I see a lot of Nike Dunk lately - maybe it's about their availability.
This is my last purchase - Nike Air Max 90 Hyperfuse ID. I traded this pair for one of my framed photos. AM90 is still the most comfortable sneakers from all that I have. But specifically this model has some mesh on top. Not very practical solution for winter.

I once booked a plane ticket to California to buy a pair of Nike. The day before the flight I found this model in New York. Sadness But this is not the pair, it's just the Nike Air Max 1.
I have already said that I love Air Max. This is a model of Nike Air Max 97.
Each collector must have at least one pair of Air Jordans — better if they are Air Jordan 13.
