Bookmarks: Archive of art magazines beginning of XX century
IN RUBRIC "IN BOOKMARKS" We talk about websites and online services - both useful and completely useless, but funny and amazing - which, in fact, should be added to favorites or added to the RSS-feed.
monoskop.org
The Monoskop site is dedicated to art, media and the humanities; with the help of it you can understand a variety of topics - from afrofuturism to cyberfeminism. We suggest paying attention to the page with the archive of avant-garde and modernist magazines published at the beginning of the last century, devoted to art, music, literature, theater and politics.
We think to explain why, in our digital age, print magazines still have such importance, unnecessarily - this is a source of inspiration, and artifacts that help us better understand the era. Therefore, the Monoskop archive is useful not only for historians, students and those whose work is directly related to typography, and it is not a pity to spend several hours studying materials. This is a real gift for visuals: there is information about several hundred publications in different languages, published in Berlin, Paris, London, New York, Moscow and other cities - for example, the magazine Bauhaus and the Dadaist edition The Blindman, one of the creators of which was Marseille Duchamp. There are also works in Russian - the magazines "Futurists", "Works and Days", "LEF", which was edited by Vladimir Mayakovsky, "Modern Architecture" and others. Some of the scans are located on the Monoskop site itself, others can be viewed from the links in open sources. The archive is periodically updated with new editions - so it is worth looking into it regularly.
