What to expect from 2015: Major events and trends in fashion

Olesya Iva

We recently recalled The 12 main fashion events of 2014: from the demonstrations in the format of protests and the appearance of health-ready to the rapid take-off of Kendall Jenner, who became the main model of the year. In this material, we’ll tell you what 2015 will bring: which heroes should be closely monitored, what trends have emerged and what events we are waiting for the most.

Revaluation of values: the return of sexuality

We have already written more than once about the return of the worship of the body in a new interpretation for the fashion and beauty industry: health and harmony with themselves are now becoming core values. At the same time, strong women who did not hide their sexuality began to dominate pop culture: Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Niki Minaj. It is not surprising that sexy clothes return to fashion, and modern heroines perceive their bodies as personal property, not a tool of seduction, and clothing as a free choice. So, half-forgotten mini-skirts, tight-fitting dresses, ultrashort shorts, transparent things opening the chest, deep cuts and cuts on clothes, transparent tights and boots will come into vogue in 2015. In general, get ready.

Trend: Fashion at the junction of the 60s and 70s

Judging by the new collections, for example, Louis Vuitton, J.W. Anderson and Prada, fashion this year will make a U-turn from a clear minimalist and sporty style to a relaxed boho. The shows include boots, platform shoes, flared pants and trousers-pipes, multi-layered styles, mini and maxi lengths, ponchos, dresses worn over trousers, and reminiscent of Bianchi Jagger, Jacqueline Bisset and Jane Birkin style. The trend has touched the latest men's shows.

At the same time, the flexibility of modern fashion is striking: in its pure form, trends and trends in 2015 do not exist. Trends are rapidly emerging and dying thanks to social networks. Today we see how some forgotten elements are returning, which, like a thick layer of cream, layered on the shortbreads from previous trends. Thus, the masculine style is intertwined with sexual, minimalism props maximalism, and boho elements can easily be reflected in sportswear.

Revival: Charles James and Paul Poiret

It is difficult to say how appropriate it is to revive old houses in the era of popular culture. However, this is happening, and successful restarts of houses like Carven and Schiaparelli become an excellent confirmation of this. In 2015, it is planned to restart two more houses: Charles James and Paul Poiret. The Frenchman Paul Poiret, a big fan of theatrical art, at the beginning of the 20th century, first introduced Oriental motifs to fashion, and also freed women from the corset, becoming an important figure for more liberated femmes libérées. Charles James, in turn, is the most famous American fashion designer in the history of fashion. Being a fashion architect and perfectionist, he created breathtaking sculpture dresses in which, however, it was not so easy to move.

Collaboration: New H & M Collaboration

Democratic and high fashion every year find more and more points of contact. The most powerful and noticeable collection of 2014 was the joint work of American designer Alexander Wang and Swedes H & M. Given the active rebranding of brands, increased attention to new heroes and a violent wave of interest in social networks, we can assume that in 2015 the Swedes will take up cooperation with brands with the greatest youth impulse that Marc by Marc Jacobs and Moschino now possess. You can bet.

Rebranding: John Galliano at Maison Margiela

The main conceptual fashion house Maison (Martin) Margiela will never be the same. In connection with the appointment of John Galliano to his new creative director, 2015 will go down in history as the year when the house will be rebranding from and to. The changes began when the name of the founder Martin disappeared from the name of the house. The first collection of John Galliano, which we have already seen in January, turned out to be a theatrical one and caused an ambiguous reaction: Galliano’s legacy blew clearly in Dior. However, fashion critics, respected in the world, are pleased with its appearance. "Today, in an era of recession in fashion and boring normality, the return of John Galliano should please everyone who loves extraordinary," said Susie Menkes, and we agree with her.

Exhibitions: Lanvin and Alexander McQueen Retrospectives

Two large-scale exhibitions are waiting for us this year. The first is a retrospective of hundreds of works by Lanvin’s house in the Parisian Palais Galliera, which can be visited from March 8. The second is dedicated to Alexander McQueen and starts on March 14 at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The exhibition will be collected from the work of the designer's first graduation work in 1992 to the unfinished autumn-winter collection of 2010.
