Trend: Fringe
The fringe, once associated with the costumes of cowboys rather than with the collections of fashion designers, is increasingly appearing on the catwalks.
Fringe - braid with threads hanging on one side, soft fibers, laces or any other pendants.
Fringe was once associated with the clothes of native Indians, with the costumes of American cowboys, with relaxed hippie clothes and sometimes with military uniforms. But since last season, simultaneously with the popularization of the style of the Wild West and the universal love of bohemian chic, the fringe gradually began to appear in the collections of more and more fashionable houses. In the spring-summer collections of 2010, for the most part, it appears as an imperceptible detail or decoration of accessories, but at the same time several brands of trendsetters: on the shoulder straps of Balmain jackets, on Marc Jacobs and Mulberry bags, on boots and D & G belts. Adam and VPL decorated with fringe necklaces and necklaces, BCBG Max Azria - clutches, and A. F. Vandervorst - charms. But, for example, the brave sisters from Rodarte, who create art rather than pure fashion, shift the fringe from collection to collection every season. Jean-Paul Gautier does the same, but with his couture collections.

After the autumn-winter shows, it became clear that the craze for things made of suede and leather can not do without a characteristic element - the fringe. The American Derek Lam's collection was entirely devoted to cowboys — a fringe appears in every other bow. Wunderkind Germans, inspired by Indian and shamans, decorated fringes for capes and drape jackets. And now, after a couple of months, when sending their clients on a cruise, Karl Lagerfeld, who chaotically used the fringe in the autumn-winter collection of Chanel, invites them to wear dresses that consist entirely of thin strips of leather.

Usually, sophisticated couture collections do not set any definite trends, but every year after viewing them, it is still possible to single out certain directions. This year, this trend has become a fringe. Critic of The New York Times Katie Horin noted that the long silk fringe of Givenchy dresses looks like human hair (it was called “hairy fringe”), a similar detail appeared in Jean Paul Gaultier and Dior. And creating a couture collection of Maison Martin Margiela, the new home designers sew coveralls and jackets from traditional leather fringe.

As in the case of midi skirts, brands of the mass market picked up the trend to decorating with fringe almost instantly: it appeared in the spring collections of H & M, Zara, the Topshop collaboration lines, and the British Vogue bloggers admired suede dresses with a fringe from the Oasis spring-summer collection.

Vladimir Bordeaux, chief editor of the sitevconfession.com: In principle, I sometimes like fringe as a decorative element. You can’t say: “I don’t like lace or embroidery” - it happens in everyone. On men, the fringe still looks rather eccentric, except for the cowboy theme, and that one goes through the category of kitsch. If we talk about women's clothing, then most often the fringe makes me happy. Maybe because the first association that comes to my mind is connected with dresses of the jazz era, which I love very much. Very rarely a fringe can spoil a thing. I think the longer the fringe is, the more spectacular the thing looks; she is too active and not quite familiar to the eye, so as not to catch the eye. Therefore, for lovers of hoodie and male loafers, it is contraindicated. Although mixing a sporty agli-style with something like that would be quite exciting. From the last examples I liked, Hermes silk scarves with silk fringes, some items (and especially shoes) of the Russian Rogue brand, a dress from the last year’s Maison Martin Margiela art line and a phenomenal Givenchy Haute Couture jacket made of several layers of powder-colored fringe. |
Alexander Rogov, stylist: I would not attribute the fringe to one of the brightest trends of this summer, but I can safely attribute it to one of the timeless ones. Almost every designer used the fringe in his collections one way or another - from Alexander Wang (I really like his wedge ankle boots with trimming in the form of fringe) to Jil Sander (the grandiose collection with fringe in the leading role remembers, perhaps, everyone). I don’t wear a fringe - I don’t have hippie and boho-style, but for some it is very much for the face, for example, for the girl Rumi, who runs the fashiontoast.com blog. |
