Wali Mohammed Barrech: Clothes for conscious consumption

IN THE WEEKLY RUBRIC "NEW MARK"Wonderzine presents young designers and tells where and how you can buy their things. Our hero this week is Vali Mohammed Barrech, a young Danish designer who creates eco-friendly and technological things, and also advocates sensible consumption and individuality in fashion.

Wali Mohammed Barrech was born into a Croatian-Afghan family, grew up in Pakistan, and at the age of 14 moved to Germany. He felt on himself how difficult it is to be both a teenager and a migrant in a European country. At the same time, Barrech never fully identified himself with one or another culture, and even at school he understood that fashion and art make it possible to speak with people all over the world in the same language. After living in Berlin and Copenhagen, Wali entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where he studied with Walter van Berendonk, who quickly noticed the talent of the young designer and helped him throughout his studies. After graduation, Barrech returned to Copenhagen, where he launched a personalized brand of clothing, which he financed.

The designer works with several companies that produce technology and eco-materials. For example, one of them - the German Sympatex - patented membrane waterproof material, windproof, breathable and, moreover, 100% recyclable, from which Vali sews his collections. All brand products are made in Copenhagen, which allows the designer to track the quality of things. The barrel is important to create functional things that do not harm the environment: for example, it does not use fur and strictly follows the amount of fabric consumed. He simply and honestly describes his position: "It’s bad to kill animals for the sake of clothes. We need to create things that do not spoil the world." He also promotes conscious consumption - calls for paying more attention to the uniqueness and design of things, to look for something special, and not to mindlessly buy a ton of unnecessary clothes.

Wali mixes outdoor and sports styles (in particular, she interprets rainwear) and unisexuality. In the new collection, the designer shows leotards and shorts, referring to the shape of cyclists, laconic skirts and dresses-t-shirts made from metallized fabric, technological bombers, similar to life jackets, transparent raincoats and anoraks. Barreh puts monograms SOS and prints on things, and then combines them with monophonic things - lemon and beige. In addition to clothing, the designer creates accessories and shoes: for example, in the new collection there are backpacks and sandals on the platform.

Modern fashion is a crazy vicious circle in which designers are forced to create commercial collections six times a year. However, there are educated people with good taste all over the world who are ahead of the trends. They think globally, speak the same language and are able to emphasize their own individuality with the help of clothing. They are able to read my message, which I put in every thing. Good taste and fashion are able to unite people on a global level: you look at what a person looks like, and immediately understand that you are close to him and think the same. My brand creates a visual post-gender product. Simply put, unisex. I want all people, regardless of gender and age, to be comfortable in my things. Do you survive, do sports in the rain, swim - I want to produce things for any situation. As long as you do not answer the question of who you are and why you wear this or that thing, you will look silly. A new type of luxury is intelligent and utilitarian things.
