A terrible version of you: Bloggers show makeup for Halloween
We hope that this weekend you've already walked your best costume or are getting ready for a party today. We also decided to celebrate one of our favorite holidays with unusual make-ups - and asked the most interesting makeup artists and bloggers to show how fantasy, skillful hands and a set of good brushes can turn you into a terrible version of yourself.
Halloween is a dark holiday, despite numerous parties and an abundance of cute costumes. Many try to use "frightening" images like zombies or clowns, but it looks pretty harmless. I decided to try to do something more creepy. The first thing that comes to mind is a series of paintings by Francisco Goya, which is called "Los Caprichos". It was discovered only after the death of the artist, so it is not known exactly what Goya wanted to portray, but the themes of fear, illness and horror are read instantly. In the last years of his life, Francisco was sick and experienced real torment. He stopped communicating with people and led a reclusive life. A series of paintings that he painted directly on the walls of his house, striking oppressive mood and causes a strong feeling of discomfort. I tried to interpret it in makeup.
Make-up turned out to be simple, besides, it is easy to adapt it for a specific image: painful yellowish skin will suit both mummies (add bandages) and vampire (add blood) or zombies (use more gray color). In total, it took me three thick NYX cream pencils, a little of their own yellow pressed pigment, a little oil, and one Inglot black eyeliner in a can. Mix in several versions and in arbitrary proportions brown, yellow and white colors with each other and with a drop of oil, then apply them on the face in a chaotic manner with greasy strokes. Enough one or two brushes - I took the art and a flat brush for the tone of MAC. Then take a black eyeliner and darken the oval of the face and cheekbones. It remains to work a little black eyes, highlight the lips - and the image is ready. For a feeling of inflamed and painful skin, you can add a little red strokes of lipstick.
This year I decided to try on the image of the Phantom of the Opera, inspired by the eponymous film of 2004, in which the main role was played by Gerard Butler. The basis was two different masks that were in the film on the main character. Plus, I was inspired by the works of the NYX Face Awards finalist - 2016 kati_powderbrush. I decided not to use make-up and took easily accessible products that many probably have analogues of: Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude, NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil, their eyebrow pencils, tone mixer, Taup Blush HD Blush, eyeliner and Maybelline contour.
To get a light color mask, you can take a one or two tone foundation that is lighter than usual or add a white mixer to an existing one. To mask the mask and draw the blackout, you need only a couple of colors: black, white, gray or taupe. Halloween is not a holiday for me that I diligently celebrate, but this is no reason not to make some cool artworks. By the way, I didn’t try on the image of Harley Quinn, but I wouldn’t refuse to draw Pennyvayza, it’s too good a new film, as for me!
Halloween is my favorite holiday, and for the last thirteen years I have only missed the celebration once because of a deep pregnancy. True, every time I don’t have time to realize my crazy ideas about the costume due to the fact that I postpone everything until the last, so my version is something simple but effective. Egypt is my favorite subject: two years ago I turned into bandages pre-soaked in tea, dyed my locks in gold and was Cleopatra's mummy. In this - the mask of Anubis made my holiday.
The make-up in the photo is as simple as possible if there is a patient person ready to paint your skin with black MAC Chromacake. Do not forget to moisturize the skin well before applying, otherwise do not avoid irregularities and gaps. Makeup artists at MAC Pro advise you to put the product on a light tone, but I did without it. To create a moist effect on the skin, some areas can be worked through with a cream stick. Gold elements are created by pigment and various mixers. Depending on the texture you want to get, it can be a Mixing Medium, a transparent sheen, and even a classic Face and Body.
I think Halloween is one of those rare holidays that I don’t miss. I was inspired by this image of Frankenstein’s wife: I wanted to do makeup, but not overload it with special effects, so that if you want, you can repeat it from what is easy to buy in a store around the corner. Last time I had a dark image: a mixture of demons, clowns and my bruises under my eyes. Watching the work of my favorite instagram makeup artists, I decided to get a little better: drew a face chart, choose between zombie-swamp and dead skin color, did a test of shadows and linens for the lines — probably that is why I finished it late at night. Well, as always, by the way, I'm leisurely.
The whole image was repelled by the creamy shades of the NYX Vivid Brights and the clips that I really wanted to stick on my face. I miscalculated a little with the substrate - the shadows are obviously not designed for such an intensive expense: by the time I had half my face toned, they were already begging for mercy and were ready to humbly wait in the box to “give”. 100,500 shades of shadows went further, and the Duo black glue completed the work (as well as the life cycle in my cosmetic bag). Surprisingly, these clips lasted more than five hours of active laughter and drinks. Thanks to the work with the illusion of volume, the neck turned out very naturally, as if there was latex. Special thanks for the thin lines of the NYX Ink Liner and the brush from the art store. They re-shot several times: it was not easy to shoot in the dark, so the trend for pictures using a flashlight was salvation. For the third time, the photographer and I finally exhaled happily and went to smear all this beauty on the Halloween party around the corner.
The images on Halloween this year are surprisingly uniform, so I decided to look for inspiration in urban legends, and in order not to slip into banal screamers, I had to recall children's horror stories from the camp: The Peak Dame and, of course, Bloody Mary. The image used three basic colors: red, white, gray, - and their shades. For example, to achieve a white tone of the face, you should not immediately apply makeup to the skin, but it is better to gradually add it to the base of your tone: then it will lie evenly and will not emphasize desquamation. To make-up in the color of the eyes did not look flat and unnecessarily monochrome, I made a base of terracotta tint using NYX liquid shadows and Urban Decay Naked Heat palettes and bleached it all over the still and lower eyelids using red shadows and Sugarpill pigment, the mucous brought red brown pencil Pupa.
For eyebrows, contouring, and lip makeup, I used gray: a NYX pencil in Charcoal hue, a refill from Lunatic Cosmetic Medium Gray whale contour, and LASplash lipstick in Vindictive shade. She emphasized the relief of the face with the shadows of Sugarpill Love + and Asylum pigment. Add a little glitter to the center of the lips and in the corners of the eyes and fill it with blood - an ominous glow is provided. You can complement the image with careless curls, winding hair on the curling iron of medium diameter and spraying on them a texturizing spray R + Co Trophy.
