CONTINUE TO TELLabout decent accounts in social networks through which you can view the whole world.

A few days ago, the model Hanna Gabi Odile came up coming out as an intersex - thanks to this bold gesture, many first learned about the existence of intersex people and their problems. We are accustomed to the diversity of gender identities and are not surprised that someone identifies himself as a transgender or agender, however, the idea that biological sex is a whole spectrum, and not a clear division into "men" and "women", is still it sounds unusual. In his YouTube blog, activist Pidgeon, he is Jen Pagonis, talks about his experience and explains how the life of intersex people - those born with sexual characteristics that do not fit into the typical definition of a male or female body.

Pidgeon himself identifies himself as an intersex person with non-binary gender identity (Pidgeon uses a neutral English pronoun they refer to themselves, which is difficult to translate into Russian). He lives in Chicago, works in the organization of interACT youth, helping intersex adolescents, and is engaged in gender studies.

One of the main goals of the blog and all Pidgeon activist work is to stop the "normalizing" operations that intersex children do without significant medical indications. When Pidgeon was one year old, his parents were convinced that the “unwanted” testicles in their daughter’s body needed to be removed, since they could potentially cause cancer. Also, Pidgeon in childhood underwent surgery to remove the clitoris, which seemed to doctors "too big." Unfortunately, many intersex children have to face the same thing - for example, Hanna Gabi Odil removed the testicles at the age of ten, and later she had to do vaginoplasty. Activists are against "normalizing" surgical interventions - intersex people are sure that they are much more harm than good.

In Russia, intersex people’s rights are spoken outside the doors of medical offices or in closed communities: ARSI (the Association of Russian-speaking Intersex People) is in the Russian-language Internet and the intersex sexual support group, where they discuss news, doctors, and share tips, as well as small groups in social networks. People with different intersexual states in the world are 2% - as many as redheads.
