Esquire fashion director Ekaterina Pavelko about favorite outfits
FOR RUBBER "WARDROBE" we take pictures of beautiful, original or strangely dressed people in their favorite things and ask them to tell stories related to them. This week, our heroine is Ekaterina Pavelko, the stylist and fashion director of Esquire magazine.
For many years in a row, I have the same favorite and dangerous work for my wardrobe: there is always a lot of beautiful things around, and there is not enough willpower to oppose them. Although I try to fight with my own consumerism and sometimes I reach the state “I have everything, I don’t need anything”.
As for the style, there is a feeling that 3-4 different women are hiding in my closet. One of them was not taken to some kind of art school, but she does not give up. The other one wears a thin Uniqlo down jacket down to the summer and collects sneakers. The third is a fan of minimalism and can spend half the salary on a "simple handy thing." The latter loves vintage dresses and does not leave the house without a string of pearls in the morning. In general, I am well acquainted with all of this company, although I can hardly predict who of them will be the first to go to the closet tomorrow.
Uniqlo shirt, Calvin Klein vintage jeans, Rocco P. boots.
Blue shirts for me as part of a uniform - I choose when I don’t know what to wear, or if I don’t have time to think about it, or I’m just tired of everything else. Thanks to the right proportions and the "washed" color, this one is one of the favorites. There was such a story with jeans: I saw similar vintage jeans with stripes in Bless store in Berlin at Mulackstrasse, 38, they were absolutely not my size, but they sank into the soul that I had to repeat the idea myself. She found vintage jeans a size smaller, picked up a cloth for the lamp, carried it to the atelier, they were hanging over the task and still did as I asked.
Miu Miu blouse, YSL pants, Maison Martin Margiela shoes
Blouse with a bow has long wanted, and she found me on sale in Milan. The trousers are a hundred years old, they are from those times when Stefano Pilati worked at YSL. I am very sorry that lately he has not been making women's collections, and I hope that soon everything will change in our favor. I wear heel shoes extremely rarely, but these are so good that sometimes I make an exception.
Bathrobe Inshade, dress H & M x Sonia Rykiel, ballet flats Jimmy Choo
Inshade buy one or two things every season. There was a collapse with the SS 2016 collection: I ordered seven things and, using the good attitude towards me, I hung over the soul of designer Masha Smirnova until I received this robe. I like the fact that pajamas and combination dresses moved from home to evening wear, and a bathrobe seems to be an adequate substitute for a summer coat, it can be worn with a dress, and with a white T-shirt and jeans.
Suit NikeLab x Sacai, Nike Air Vintage Sneakers
I have been following the Sacai collections for a long time and intently - only the Japanese are so beautiful, brave and modern. When I saw the lookbook of this collaboration, I wanted to order almost everything online, but I restrained myself. And then she was on a business trip in London and was no longer by the store. I rarely wear a whole suit, somehow it’s too bright for Moscow, it’s simpler individually.
Nina Donis Vest, T-shirt & Other Stories, Whyred pants, adidas Superstar sneakers
About Nina Donis, I realized long ago that they are very cool. I regret that foolishly did not buy their things earlier - over the years they have only looked sharper and better. I especially envy when I look at Natasha Turovnikov in some of their stunning dresses from old collections! I have great affection for white sneakers, and these are the most favorite whites.
Hussein Chalayan Jacket, Cupro Dress, Acne Boots
Jacket bought under pressure from the authority of the designer and a big discount, then I realized what a great thing this is - adds rigor and elegance to any outfit. The dress - in fact, a long T-shirt - found in the men's department of “Tsvetnoy”, I decided - I need it more.
Lemaire x Uniqlo raincoat, Fred Perry socks Bella Freud socks, Rocco P. boots
In my opinion, Lemaire and Uniqlo are one of the most successful collaborations that benefit both parties. Really looking forward to continue in the summer collection. White coat immediately attracted, just for impractical color: on cloudy days it has a serious wow-effect. I have a long relationship with the Italian brand Rocco P. I just love and wear constantly.
Gosha Rubchinskiy sweater, Mezzatorre skirt, Prada shoes
I have great sympathy for Gosha and what he does. I am touched by the symbolism that he uses in his collections. Mezzatorre stumbled upon a mall, they have excellent patterns, fabrics and prices.
Inshade Dress, Shoes & Other Stories
Black dresses occupy a significant part of my closet, most of them are neutral, which is good, and this is with character, which is even better. & Other Stories some time ago eclipsed COS, I’m especially lucky with shoes.
Dries Van Noten jacket, Levi's jeans, American Vintage T-shirt, Stubbs & Wootton loafers
Jacket - a gift from her husband, he, fortunately, he figured out a long time ago that I could always please Dries Van Noten things. Loafers brought from New York in a fit "you can not only buy practical things." I thought that they were practically disposable, but it turned out that they did not fail.
Prada dress and shoes, Levi's denim jacket
In my personal design pantheon Miuccia Prada is one, absolutely brilliant. This dress is a little more feminine than I usually wear, but it looks ok with a full denim jacket. The patch on the jacket is a picture of Jim Phillips, chief surf and skate painter of the 70s.
Alexander McQueen chain and pendant, chain from the V & A store in London
I have long admitted to myself that I like yellow gold jewelry the most. I think the point is Ukrainian origin and children's impressions of what was considered beautiful and smart in the village near Poltava, where I was taken in the summer for holidays.
A brooch from a museum in Istanbul, a Versace pin, earrings and a brooch from a flea market, a Tiffany & Co. ring.
Wherever I find myself, I always try to go to the museum and the flea market. So from travel and business trips bring all sorts of treasures. Tiffany & Co. Ring gave dad about the birth of his granddaughter and my daughter.
Lacoste bag
Fashion statement, clearly and clearly set out in a beautiful font, is not the most modern, but one of my favorite tricks. T-shirts, where something important is written in black and white, look cool. Bags, for my taste, too.
Adidas sneakers NMD
Firstly, they are incredibly comfortable, and secondly, this coloring, in my deepest and most unfounded conviction, is inspired by the Russian avant-garde and suprematism.
Clarks boots, Alberto Guardiani shoes
"Deserts", in my opinion, from the category of simple and ingeniously invented things. I inherited similar shoes from my sister in high school, and since then I return to them regularly. Brilliant shoes are a rather radical thing for me, admitting to myself that this is beautiful, helped daughter Zoya and her ideas about beauty.
Vintage bag
Berlin has very cool vintage shops - sometimes you can feel yourself a time traveler. I found this bag in one of them.
Gucci Envelope and Bally Bag
Alessandro Michele's collections for Gucci are a great event and a breath of fresh air that should have happened in Milan long ago. And finally, the moment has come. This envelope, received as a gift, was downright sniper hit. Bag lady like I appeared in the framework of the plan look in accordance with their age. However, at some point I could not stand its severity and hooked an Indian keychain with a pompon.
