Marta Jakubowski: Pure Colors Laconic Clothing

IN THE WEEKLY RUBRIC "NEW MARK" Wonderzine presents young designers and tells where and how you can buy their things. Our heroine this week is Marta Yakubowski, the founder of the brand name, who puts personal feelings into each thing.

Martha was born in Poland, grew up and studied in Germany and in London. She received the education of a designer for eight years in various schools, but completed it at the Royal College of Art, whence she graduated in 2014 and immediately founded the brand. Before completing her master’s program, Marta managed to complete an internship in several houses at once: Hussein Chalayan in London and Alexander Wang in New York. She worked on the first collection, experiencing the loss of her mother. According to Martha, she tried to gather all the emotions into a fist: sadness, madness, pain of loss. At the show of models, wide strips of fabric were attached to each other, which were attached to metal decorations on their heads, which symbolized the connection and its loss between people.

Since the founding of the brand, Marta has so far presented three collections, the last of which she presented this year at the London and Paris Fashion Week. In London, the event was held on the NEWGEN platform and was accompanied by a fashion film. Martha says she has always sought to change through minimization. The designer shows, on the one hand, baggy things in men's style: wide trousers, a coat with a straight cut. On the other - sexy: bra-tops, maxi dresses in tight-fitting, well-cut turtlenecks from crepe and neoprene. Many things adorn the slots, revealing the most vulnerable parts of the body: the region of the heart, abdomen, thighs. Turtleneck - the main thing in the collections of the designer and her favorite since childhood. Martha works with pure colors showing monochromatic red, black, white things with a rare use of bright colors, such as fuchsia.

All my work is very personal, and the process of creation for me is often more important than the result. For any designer, it is important to have an idea of who will wear your clothes. I learned this during my internship at Alexander Wang. Wang, working on a collection, keeps in mind what kind of music his client listens to, how she handles style and relates to things around. All this we see within seven minutes of each of his shows. This is really very important. So, going to work, I create a mindboard of the world of my heroine. It reflects where she lives, what she eats, what kind of music she loves, how she spends her weekends, and so on. For the designer of women's clothing is very important to look into the inner world of this girl and inside.
