London brand Neoss: Things from neoprene and velveteen
IN THE WEEKLY RUBRIC "NEW MARK"we present young designers and tell them where and why to buy their things. Our heroines this week are Georgie Charalambous and Nathalie Bulu, school friends who founded the Neoss brand about a year ago. Their concept is based on responsible consumption and opposition to the mass market. Girls go against the generally accepted rules of the game, giving up the fashionable race, and instead of creating regular four collections per year, they release things in small circulations, focusing on their quality.
Close friends of Georgie Charalambus and Natalie Bulu met at school. They admit that their first sketches of a joint collection appeared at the pool when, as teenagers, they rested with their parents during the summer holidays. In high school, they parted ways: Bula went to New York for an internship - first in one of the world's most famous brands of underwear VPL (you probably have often seen their intricate bandage swimsuits, made of tape) and then Chromat, which made a splash at New York Fashion Week a year ago. When Natalie returned to London, the girls decided to open a joint venture calling their brand a Greek word meaning “something new.” It perfectly reflects their attitude to the creation of things.
The first material that twenty-five years old designers began to experiment with was neoprene. From it they made a small line of accessories: bags, backpacks and round clutches, resembling cases for CDs from the 90s. And after, of course, swimsuits, thanks to Natalie's background. By the way, they can still be bought in the store of the brand.
Now the collection has expanded, and the presentation of the first fashion video of the brand has recently passed on Dazed. From it it is clear what makes up the backbone of the brand: a coat and wide trousers from coarse velveteen, voluminous neoprene bombers, ski jackets. They all resemble the shape of a laborer, and not an easy one: Georgie's father is a builder. The girl admits that his appearance still inspires her, and wide pants and jackets Neoss in some way repeat his clothes for work. Designers are opposed to the typical idea that clothes should “flatter” a woman, emphasize or hide the features of her body. “Our clothes are large, they seem to envelop you”, - because of this, you feel secure in an aggressive urban environment. The collection is available in the London studio brand, you can arrange delivery online.
We create timeless clothing that serves more than one season. We would like all people to respect things done by manual labor. All that goes under our brand, we sew ourselves, in our studio in North London. We also oppose environmental pollution and try to minimize waste from production, understanding the responsibility we bear as designers. Fashion is one of the most destructive industries for ecology, and all the troubles are due to the culture of fast consumption. People just buy clothes, and then throw them away.
