Interview beauty editor Masha Vorslav about work and favorite cosmetics

FOR THE FACE "HEAD" we study the contents of beauty cases, dressing tables and cosmetic bags of interesting characters to us - and we show all this to you.

About self confidence

Honestly, I used to imagine what I would say when I get into this rubric. But now I do not know what to write about myself. I lead a very simple life, about which there is nothing to tell. I like my work, I like my loved ones, and I increasingly like myself externally and internally. I remember how hard it was when all this was not there, but I don’t really want to think about it - it’s not really necessary. I no longer put experiments on myself that I proved something to myself, and I don’t really want to prove my beliefs to others. If there are people who like what I do - great. If not, I'll suffer, but I can handle it.

When I received a letter that Alena Doletskaya wants to discuss cooperation, I did not believe my eyes. I really liked working at Wonderzine, but then I was an outsider among beauty editors and considered myself underdeveloped. In Interview, I still feel like an outsider, but self-confident. It's so nice, and I'm glad that I finally earned this feeling.

About dream job

Today is my last day at Interview Russia, and I am glad that I managed to work there. I did the last three issues of the magazine and the site, so I had time to compare print and web. Now they are increasingly saying that the quality of content on the web should not be inferior to journaling. I also think so, but it is interesting how this idea will be realized: work on printing is nevertheless a measured and scrupulous process, and on the Internet, speed and speed of mind decide. I myself am rather a person of the web: with it as a 3D printer you can create anything from scratch. From Russian media, its capabilities are well understood in Look At Media and Blueprint, this is evident from their sites. The second edition creates a cool video content, and the future for it.

I try to develop both as a beauty author, and as a makeup artist. Of course, ideally, it would be necessary to concentrate on one thing and improve skills. But I want to write and paint, so I decided to sit on two chairs. I will not be cunning, it's easier for me: as a makeup artist, I can describe my make-up in a normal language, and as an editor I can quickly find a common language with the team on the set and make up as it seems to me beautiful. I have no plans for the future yet, but I definitely want to do something timely and useful. It seems to me that Russian fashion and beauty spheres need new formats, and now is the perfect time to come up with them.

About the approach to work

I am often told that I am an unusual beauty editor and even a makeup artist. I am pleased to hear this - it means that I am doing everything correctly. But to tell you the truth, I don't think so. Interest and instagram are full of makeup that I inspire, and their authors, in turn, are inspired by other works. My style, if there is one, is not unique, but it is he who is peculiar to me, and I will continue to develop it. At the same time, I am not afraid of quotes and borrowings, but thoughtless copying and fooling of the audience disgusts me.

Regarding the texts: I see how foreign editors work, and therefore I have a quality bar I am trying to reach. Readers need to respect and appreciate his time. You can not treat him down. I am sure that you can’t write about a "bank" or a phenomenon without feeling it and analyzing it. Why does the world need another faded and uninformative text? Do normally - it will be normal. And my personal conviction: the beauty sphere needs to change the tone to a more democratic one.

About make-up

Now there will be a phrase that will surely tire the readers, but I really don’t dye it. That is, every day I do the tone and color lashes. But I can go to work without makeup or change a few lipsticks in the office simply because I want to. Make-up for me is not necessary, and that is why I like it so much.

I love the so-called art make-up, that is, conceptual, and I consider it a full-fledged art form. I love to translate the idea through the pictures on the body. If I could, I would only think and paint. But, as I recently realized, the profession of makeup artist allows you to develop not only in the art of the key. You can learn the interaction of different textures and colors. You can study the behavior of products on different skin and in different conditions. You can pump communication skills and learn to find a compromise with the client (and oh, how different they are). And, of course, to study and analyze fashion, and with it the world as a whole. Opportunities for development - a million.

About cosmetics

I understood what care I need. This does not mean that I will not try new cosmetics, but knowing your cost of living is useful. I wash my face with mild remedies, before applying cream, apply moisturizing serum or lotion onto wet skin. I do not use scrubs - only products with enzymes and acids. Sometimes I make a mask according to my mood. I don’t touch the face over and I don’t get upset because of rashes before menstruation. I have unpretentious skin, and I realize that I was lucky.

For the shoot, I brought only what I use all the time. At the same time I have a lot of other cosmetics, especially decorative. I love lipsticks in non-typical colors: blue, green, yellow. It seems to me that they also adorn the face as red, but they look unblazed. I love makeup as graphic and ascetic - both for myself and for others. When preparing for the shooting, I think, at a minimum, the means to convey the idea. I would rather make an unusual arrow than I would blend five colors in front of my eyes. I don’t understand why this is popular right now - something different shows on fashion weeks.

Cosmetics for me a long time raw material, not wealth. I do not collect it intentionally and I like to distribute it. I admire the range of "Girlfriends" and "Golden Apple" - in any price category there is an interesting one. I rate organic and natural cosmetics by the same parameters as “normal”. As an Asian, I am also not a fan, although there are some cool things like gels-sanskrins and oils for washing. And that's why exactly cool - to nail polish. I have only three: tight white Essie, shiny top Jin Soon and dirty gray Chanel.
