Bloggers on how and where to store tons of cosmetics

We write a lot about cosmetics, and it is not surprising that we have difficulties with its storage: it’s not enough that every bank should be remembered, so you still need to have time to find it. We decided to ask the girls who are interested in cosmetics no less than ours about how and where they keep theirs, and now we share their useful tips and ideas.

I have a lot of makeup. So I think, until I open a blog for someone like Temptalia; in fact, for the “ordinary” girl, there is a lot of it; for a beauty blogger, this is quite modest. I like to distribute what I do not use, because instead of a surrender, you can justifiably buy a new one!

My main principle is that everything should be visible. As soon as the bank fits somewhere in the box, I forget about it, and even the finest means risk drying in the far corner. They are saving transparent containers from IKEA or from Amazon and a magnetic board, on which I hung shadows, blush and highlighters - so they don’t allow me to forget about myself. The rest of the decorative cosmetics lives in transparent coasters on the window (I only paint in natural light) and on the Ikea shelf on wheels. Nail polishes - in a smaller container, perfume - in a larger container. I admire pictures of gilded dressing tables on Pinterest, but in my own life I prefer laboratory asceticism (by the way, Roskhim had beautiful flasks in the store ...). All that is supposed to be in the bathroom is placed along the shelves and the perimeter of the bath, creating the desired feeling of abundance. I keep only fresh Lush masks in the fridge, because otherwise they die; but it is useless to put a cream for the skin around the eyes - it is useless to climb behind it in the fridge every morning. I look forward to when the cosmetics will start to present itself as contextual advertising.

I have a lot of makeup, an awful lot, like beauty bloggers and editors of glossy magazines. It is kept everywhere: for decorative and caring, I have two or three baskets in each room and all the cabinets in the bathroom, plus a five-floor stand in the shower and several drawers in the classic IKEA shelving. It is colossally convenient to store decorative cosmetics in these InterDesign drawers - I have six of them and I need more. All transparent. I found them only on Amazon, and they take up a lot of space in the package from an intermediary, but I still haven’t seen anything better from the point of view of organizing trifles.

I keep the tassels in transparent tall containers filled with small balls, something like this - it’s better to look for such soft materials because wooden handles can get scratched and paint off. Lucky are standing on transparent racks (here such) - only sixty fit here, so I rotate them regularly (I said that there are a lot of cosmetics). The rest of the organization system looks like a warehouse, in which I bury my head once a week, find unopened cans and spread everything I found on the floor. And hiding again.

I clearly have more cosmetics than I can use at the same time, and despite the fact that I haven’t been buying anything large, expensive or superfluous since summer, some banks are still added to the turnover and there are obviously more of them than my face. In the autumn we moved, and, like everything related to real estate in London, my cosmetics storage cabinet is also small now.

At the same time I am lazy and pushed a little on the organization, and with banks I also do this: take coasters, cups and other bases in Muji and IKEA (but do not order anything specially), and then evenly fill them with cosmetics and tools, sorting by type. Sometimes I put lipstick in shades, but this is never enough for a long time. Plus a box for varnishes, a box for sanskrin, a compartment for palettes. All large caring banks should be behind the doors (enrage), all sorts of "volatile" things like serum with vitamin C - also (in the case, in the dark). There is a separate shelf for Muji miniatures and Muji road tanks - I travel more often in airplanes than in cinemas. I hate to overflow and mess around with zipblocks, but I need a minimal set of cosmetics (everything is in my carry-on bag and suddenly lost, there were some cases, but in general I am normal).

Of course, I have not just a lot of cosmetics, but too many, so the question of our life together with her is quite acute. You can, of course, go along a simple path and clog the shelves of the cabinets with jars, but in this case, they, first, begin to fall on their heads over time, and second, there is no way to live in the depths of the shelf. Therefore it is necessary, of course, to acquire some special accessories for storing cosmetics.

The most painful issue for me was the storage of nail polishes: I have a lot of them, and the size of the bottle is very small, so the option "put on the shelf" was not considered in principle. I got out of the situation with a great suitcase for thumbnails used in board games, and of classic cases for cosmetics.

I have several cases: for decorative cosmetics, hair products and small, traveling. And a separate shadow bag with multiple compartments. In addition, almost the entire door of the refrigerator is filled with tubes of masks and creams / serums that I use. In general, it is better to keep it in a special refrigerator for cosmetics, and I even have it, but it does not cope with such amounts of funds that I have to use. I keep perfumes in closed lockers, where the sun does not fall - I almost completely fit in two lockers, which is not bad. And of course, I have cosmetics in the bathroom - but only what I use in the bathroom is stored there, that is, hair and body products, plus products for washing and removing makeup.

Cosmetics - my full flatmate, which sometimes bolts and claims a separate room. I struggle with this, I track down every bank that I have not addressed for a long time, and I find a new owner for it. Still, by my standards, I have a lot of cosmetics - more than a girl who has no (except consumer) attitude to the beauty industry, but much less than the less ruthless bloggers friends. A small part is stored in the bathroom, the main part is in the bedroom: on the windowsill, on the mantelpiece and in the dresser. By themselves, there are only perfumes and candles on the fireplace - because they are pretty! - and tubes-jars-devices-combs-powder boxes are laid out on cosmetic bags, boxes, boxes. There are several handy wicker containers (bought at JYSK and Decor el Home): brushes are very good in a wicker cup holder, and elongated things like carcasses, pencils and glitters fit perfectly into the wicker box with compartments for different sorts of tea.

I only keep in the refrigerator what is forbidden to be stored in any other way: talkers or a superorganic, which has been measured for three days. I understand that in the summer at +35 some jars would be better in the fridge (like me), but I hate cold touches even more than melted lip balm or cream that has broken into fractions.

I have a lot of cosmetics so that the question of its storage becomes really significant - that is, it cannot be solved by a cosmetics bag. Even a big one. Even two big cosmetic bags.

When I realized that a bathroom cabinet did not save me, I made the simplest decision - I was puzzled by my husband. We talked, I drew my project to him, we measured the banks of "meteorites" (so that we could fit in), and I didn’t go further. In the end, I received a shelf with a mirror that I hung on the wall. It is shallow and divided into two sectors: in one mirror, the other is divided into many more small compartments. The width of the shelf is a little more than the standard palette, and everything that I have from the shadows and powder is scattered along its “pockets”. And, on the one hand, it is very convenient: I see everything at once, nothing is lost in the depths of the boxes and I do not forget that it is in my collection. The problems begin with faceless palettes like Chanel, which I have all sorts of different, including blush and powder (which, when closed, do not differ in any way from shadows), about ten. And they have to go through one by one to find the right one. I partially facilitated my task by dividing the blush-powder and shadows into different sectors, that is, I have to go through at least not all of them, but still there is a puncture, this is obvious.

For lacquers, the story is exactly the same - when all my colleagues were stuffed with pretty shelves in IKEA, I incited my husband to make awkward freaks for me, without particularly limiting him to the requirements. He got the opportunity for creative expression, and I acquired a pair of shelves that are not similar, now completely filled with colored bottles.

My brushes are in ordinary glasses, next to a shelf of shadows, but I do not lose hope to persuade my husband to come up and they, too, have something more interesting. And there is only caring cosmetics. She, I am ashamed to admit it, despite all the recommendations of professionals, is constantly registered in the bathroom. At least the one I use right now. The rest is hidden in the closet with your favorite and valuable perfumes.

Despite the amount of cosmetics, the question of its storage, I have never been particularly acute. I try not to make age-old deposits, and every few months, with a strong-willed decision, thin out the ranks of bored means, giving them to my girlfriends. This allows you to remain within the space allocated for cosmetics, there is no need for separate shelves or dressers, and there is always an additional reason to buy a new lipstick. Nevertheless, cosmetics that are not subject to distribution are still clearly more than necessary, and you still need to be guided in it somehow. Plus, it is very important for me that everything looks aesthetically pleasing, so the decor shops are visited no less often than cosmetic ones.

I found the best option for myself: beautiful trays for the part that stands in sight (creams, serums, perfumes), glasses (which are actually either candlesticks, or vases) with lip gloss and brush, small transparent boxes. (you can look at eBay or Alibaba on request "acrylic organizes") with lipsticks, which are boringly arranged by brand and color, migrated to the top drawer of the dresser, and the big black boxes with lids (Net-A-Porter packaging is just perfect) for cosmetics destined to be passed on to the next generations (collection and, you know). Since the weight of these boxes is not maintained by any shuhlyadka (drawer of the table. - Comm. Ed.), They live at the bottom of a large closet with clothes. Lucky, by the way, I keep there, although at first there were impulses to arrange them on special stands in a prominent place, but I don’t feel like sleeping in the nail salon.

I have not just a lot of cosmetics, but very many. Imagine an apartment all overwhelmed with cosmetics - this is mine. To me, girls go to rehab after a boyfriend says something like "You have too much makeup" to make sure that it happens even worse. But this is normal, as this is my job. My home is my office, so everything is kept in it.

In the first years of my blogging, cosmetics lay in packages around the bed and in all corners, stood on all horizontal surfaces, fell in the bathroom from the shelves and in the hallway from the washing machine. Not that something has seriously changed now ... It seemed to me that I needed everything and someday I would spread everything over. Over the years, this illusion has passed.

Several years ago, we decided to somehow organize everything, so that at least not to go for cosmetics and not lie on it. The famous Ikeev’s “cell” was bought 5 by 5 (now there is such a Kallax, but 4 by 4), a lot of boxes for it, the boxes are signed as “body”, “face”, “make-up” - the banks moved from the packages to the boxes . Frequently used decorative cosmetics partially moved to a specially purchased chest of drawers on wheels. But, to be honest, it rested in it - I just don’t remember what I have when it is not at hand.

So we coexist since then, I and cosmetics in boxes. In these boxes are stocks (yes, I am a hamster!), What is not needed right now, or what I don’t know where to put, or what is stored from purely collector’s interest (for example, almost all rare Chanel limits, over which I drop saliva every six months, turning over). In three boxes - the means for distribution to people who come to visit. One - especially for mom. On the same rack still stand aromas, and a couple of such boxes littered with nail polishes. In fact, they should not be stored this way, but I am not a Lakomanyak - I can.

In the bathroom, cosmetics live on a washing machine (these are products for the body, hair and face), in a mirror cabinet above the sink, along the edges of the bath (well, let's be honest, and under the bath too). In the hallway there are hair oils and styling products on the shelf, and in a separate cabinet there are a lot of hair dryers, curtains and other appliances (of which only a hair dryer is used, but you have to believe in the best in yourself). Since I now have a two-tier glass table in the kitchen, on the second tier I keep decorative cosmetics in a pile of baskets. Like these and such, but without a lid, or such - beautiful tanks in Ikea mass, the main thing is to take with square corners - it is more convenient.

The brushes used to stand in special glasses for pens, but I realized that it was inconvenient for me (in the kitchen, where all my makeup is, you can’t put them on, they are gathering dust, the cups are unstable and fall while you are looking for a brush) - and now they just lie in one of the baskets.

There was a period when, in the closet with clothes, two sliding shelves were placed under cosmetics and she was standing there in storage tanks. When a year later I realized that I didn’t even remember what was lying there, I arranged a global distribution, and these shelves were given for sports, which I now became passionately fond of (and therefore there are not enough two shelves, but this is a different matter). I do not store anything in the refrigerator, except for one solid hair oil, which once in the summer decided to become liquid, and gel for whitening teeth in the caps.

Over the last five years, I realized that if a new tool is not immediately unpacked and not included in your daily care (that is, put in the sink to the care products, put in a makeup bag with daily-used makeup products, shove on the shelf above the bathtub to shampoos), then the finest hour may never happen. In my case, the main thing is sorting at the entrance to the apartment.

I am a beauty blogger, and, of course, I have a lot of makeup and it is becoming more and more - the format of my blog assumes reviews of new cosmetics. The question of its convenient storage is very relevant, all the more we rent housing with the family and it is far from always spacious. And one more important point, which does not allow me to get myself a beautiful dressing table, - I have two children, which means that everything should be removed away.

My main principles on which I store cosmetics: the type of products (tonal framework, powder, shadows, lipstick) and their color. For example, I have six boxes of lipstick: pink, coral, red, wine, beige and almost transparent. Many place cosmetics by brand: MAC blush here, Dior here. But I, when I make up the makeup image in my head, I don’t think that I want to put on MAC blush, but that I need a bright coral color or dusty pink to these shadows and lipstick. And in a box with certain colors it is easier for me to find it.

The second point - many put in prominence the most frequently used cosmetics. I came to the conclusion that this is inconvenient for me - I am only beginning to use this kit. For a "regular" user, before going to work in the morning, of course, this is convenient, but not for a beauty blogger. And I do not like it when some tool is not used, it is easier for me to give it to someone.

About two years ago, I came up with the most convenient scheme: in a separate small box (AllureBox) I fold the cosmetics, which I plan to use the next day. In the morning I may not have time to think makeup, and the search for jars itself takes time. Therefore, I like everything in detail and with pleasure to invent and fold in advance - this is my evening meditation. And in the morning you just need to take a box and start making up. My main storage space for cosmetics is a specially purchased cabinet-desk and simple IKEA mini-chests. Brushes and pencils in cups for stationery on a closed shelf so that the brush does not gather dust. It was important for me to put a table with cosmetics by the window, where the best lighting is. In the old apartments I was painted not in the place where everything is stored, and this also did not save time. I have excellent textile pockets on a hanger from the same IKEA for storing my caring cosmetics - for a tiny bathroom without shelves and closets, this seems to be the only solution. One is hanging on the door, and the second is on a single section of the wall without a battery. But the flavors are stored in my open form on two shelves (perhaps, it is they who immediately reveal that a beauty maniac lives in the apartment). I know that the flavors are recommended to be stored in a dark place, I have not yet managed to implement it

My basic principle of dividing cosmetics is into open and unopened packages. All started means containing water in the composition will not last long (depending on the amount and strength of preservatives - from a couple of weeks to a year maximum), for this reason for all sealed jars I have a separate plastic box, which I often look into, All that for some reason didn’t suit me or didn’t like it, so that in vain it didn’t take up space, it immediately went to a separate plastic box (which we affectionately call “Pandora’s Box” with girls from Beauty Pie) roads: either for a test to one of my friends (recently, by the way, Clarisonic went this way), or to a trash can. By the way, I buy plastic boxes in Granit, but almost the same can be found in IKEA. The main thing is that they are transparent, so that you can immediately see how much and what lies in them. I adhere to the same principle when choosing a storage system for decorative: at first glance it should be clear where the matte lipstick is, where the shimmers are, and where the mascara is. I used to keep dekorativki in empty boxes Glossy Box (the Swedish alternative to GlamBox), but then still decided to invest in acrylic boxes Muji and now I strongly recommend them. Of these, if necessary, you can build at least a ten-story house, while the size they are ideal for almost any cosmetics. The only thing I do not store in them is nail polishes, because I hold the opinion that they can prolong life by keeping them in the refrigerator. So that the smell of varnishes does not interrupt the appetite, I tightly close them in a metal box from under the Aesop gift set.
