Oldnew Moscow co-owner Olya Zimina about favorite outfits
FOR RUBBER "WARDROBE" we take pictures of beautiful, original or strangely dressed people in their favorite things and ask them to tell related stories. This week our heroine is Olya Zimina, designer and co-owner of Oldnew Moscow.
I was about thirteen when I began to experiment with style. It all started with music: I liked to listen to the fact that no one from my surroundings listened - as a result, there were constant clashes at the school because of my appearance. Then I realized that clothing is a dialogue with society. Without saying a word, you can make a revolution or merge with the crowd and go with the flow - everyone chooses himself.
I was born in Volgograd and lived there for most of my life. When I was a teenager, I really wanted to look different. But how to do it when there is neither money nor diversity in the stores? So wardrobes with old things of mom and grandmothers and, of course, local second-hand sources became the sources of my unique outfits. The constant search for clothes turned into a vintage store Oldnew, which I founded with my girlfriend.
For my wardrobe, I can get a thing anywhere. It is interesting for me to combine epochs: most often I combine something from modern materials together with vintage models - the image is unique, with shades of the past. I like to combine interesting textures so that the fabrics are different by touch. Such a contrast is always in vintage stores.
When traveling, be sure to look for local secondhands and flea markets. The coolest thing you never know what's waiting for you there. Thanks to such places you can get acquainted with the local culture of people and generally meet someone cool and hang out together. In some cities, the second is a part of consumer culture, as in Helsinki, for example. The most interesting and favorite vintages: Humana on Frankfurter Tor in Berlin and Humana in Malmo, just go to their instagram and you will understand everything.
Second-hand mesh top, jeans and ankle boots - Zara, Monki keychain
At Zara sales, I buy shoes for shooting. We often make content for Oldnew, and shoes always need a modern and unusual. These stocking boots have got accustomed in my wardrobe: in them the feet seem longer and look like “skis”, but I like that. The second-hand net adds a gothic note to almost any outfit. The price of the issue is two hundred and fifty rubles.
Second-hand mesh top, vintage pants, flea market glasses, keyring & Other Stories, Vagabond sandals
Suede pants found in a vintage store in Berlin. They could be bought with their eyes closed: they are unrealistically pleasant to the touch. Points from the flea market of Lisbon. They are not similar to vintage, most likely it is the 2000s, and just got there from some kind of stock or sales, because they looked like new. Of course, I feel like Kurt Cobain in them.
Vintage jacket, second-hand dress, Vagabond shoes, glasses & Other Stories
Sandals found in Vagabond - the legs themselves go to this store, so there are comfortable shoes. Glasses bought in & Other Stories for the last money in Helsinki, I like that they seem to be connected from two different parts. A fringed jacket is a vintage find in Cologne. She has already faded a little, and in general her life has pretty well patted her, but the thing did not make her look worse. It weighs four pounds. Recently met a guy in Helsinki in the same!
Vintage Kimono Pants and Ankle Boots - Zara, Urban Outfitters Belt
About two years ago there was a feeling that kimono wanted everything for themselves. My friend and I brought for our Oldnew some very beautiful, original ones - they drool over them and flowed. Once in Barcelona, I found this thing from an incredibly pleasant silk, could not part and left myself.
Second-hand top, Urban Outfitters pants, Zara bag, vintage hat
On sales in Zara, mountains of things, bags and shoes are dumped - this bag is just from such a dam. It's amazing that I haven't met anyone with her yet. In one vintage dress I found this funny hat - tactile love happened again, it is very important to me which item is to the touch. It seems that such velvet now and do not. After the purchase, I googled the hat label - it turned out that the thing was preserved abruptly: they made it in the 50s.
Vintage Top, Zara Pants, Vagabond Sandals, ASOS Goggles
Again the excavations of Narnia in Zara. These pants are in all sizes on sale - I do not understand how this is even possible. It seems to me that people do not even realize that they would have eclipsed everyone in the trousers on the dance floor. Glasses are decorative, survived on sale at ASOS.
Vintage jacket, Uniqlo U pants, second-hand string bag, sunglasses and flea market earrings, Converse sneakers
Jacket recently brought from Helsinki - I won the gate. The cut is completely unusual for me, so I combine a jacket with clothes from other eras and styles. I found the bag on Avito: I have long wanted to buy myself such a one, so I could go shopping with her and refuse packages. I use now everywhere. Earrings from the flea market in Milan - they are not vintage, handmade, look especially beautiful in the sun.
Vintage Cloak, Top & Other Stories, Urban Outfitters Pants, Topshop Ankle Boots, Sports Store Bracelet
I go to the & Other Stories every time I am near; Recently found there this graphic jacket. I am delighted with white stitching on black fabric, and, of course, I was struck down by a volumetric silhouette. The bracelet found in Decathlon: I do not know its intended purpose and use it as an ornament. Like this ultramarine color and rough metal ring.
Vintage jacket, Oldnew blouse, Uniqlo U pants, vintage belt bag
I brought a blouse specifically for Oldnew, I found it in a vintage in Helsinki. The collar is just a bomb: dramatic and ironic at the same time. I tried on a blouse at home and could not return to the store, I left it to myself. The fabric is very interesting in texture - it turned out to be wild silk. Uniqlo U trousers from the Christoph Lemaire collection. These are the best corduroy pants in the world! People often ask me where I bought them.
