Retablo is a folk genre of Mexican art that resembles comics: using painted tablets, people can personally thank the saint or the saint "for some wonderful event, deliverance from danger or illness." Anything can be a wonderful event - from a successful marriage to the return of the prodigal cat, and the circumstances in which the story unfolds range from domestic to absolutely fantastic.
