Winter care: New and proven products
Text: Moore Sobolev, author of the telegram channel and beauty blog Fierce & Cute
In the cold season, the desire to go out is less - if only because the skin with the hair daily is subjected to unpleasant tests. Finding cosmetic products that work in domestic weather conditions is still difficult, but not impossible. Moore Sobolev recommends tools that will save in this difficult time.
Face
The skin reacts to all the surrounding inconveniences: to a sharp temperature drop (the difference between what is outside and indoors, in winter it reaches 40-50 degrees), to the drying central heating, to wind and cold. The cosmetic industry, however, is in a hurry to make our lives easier by offering to restore what we have lost due to hyaluronic acid, shea butter and other useful ingredients.
As a shock winter means oils work well. (most modern formulas do not clog pores, but everything is individual here) and products based on hyaluronic acid. There is a debate about the correct way of using oils: many believe that they can and should be replaced by serum, putting cream on top. Beauticians, however, are inclined to believe that the oil should be the final stage of care, because it creates an occlusive layer on the skin, through which subsequent agents cannot easily penetrate. This does not interfere with experimenting and finding the most appropriate way for each of us. But with serums we can be sure that they need to be applied after cleansing and before the cream - this is already good.
The main stages of care remain moisturizing and partly nutrition. It is easy to separate these two concepts: moisturizers saturate the skin with moisture and protect against dehydration, while nutrients restore the lipid layer. Often, one tool combines both qualities. The cream, of course, should be chosen according to the sensations, but the classic advice of dermatologists is to choose richer textures in winter than in summer, and give preference to products on a greasy rather than a water basis. During the hellish frosts and during long walks, cold creams will help (there are children's and pharmacy brands, for example, in Avene and Mustela) and products with a mark like "extreme weather conditions" (good ones from Clarins and Clinique). Classic nourishing cream (ideal - Crème de la Mer) should be slightly warmed up in the hands before applying: this is how it is better absorbed. Do not forget that moisturizing, and in some cases nutrition, is necessary for everyone, even the owners of the most oily skin, since dehydration and dryness are not identical.
Areas where there is no sebaceous glands are particularly in need of protection. - that is, lips and skin around the eyes. It is best to carry a lip balm or hygienic lipstick with you so that you can often resume applying, and you can replace a normal eye cream with a nourishing one - wrinkles in this area are formed especially quickly in winter.
For cleansing in the winter it is better to choose the most gentle means even if you usually like to wash your skin to the notorious squeak. In winter, our friends have balms and oils for removing makeup, foams with minimally aggressive surfactants (the mildest ones are mousses with a pump dispenser) and non-abrasive peelings (acidic or enzymatic). It is better to choose a tonic without the content of alcohol or to replace it at all with a spray-mist so as not to rub the face once again.
Masks and other special care is not pampering, but a necessity. in our harsh climate. Almost all brands have moisturizing products (successful - from Clarins, Embryolisse, Sisley), many - nutritious, which are especially good to use at bedtime (for example, L'Occitane). In addition, the cold - it's time to uncover fabric masks (they have many Asian brands - Dr. Jart +, Holika Holika, Llang, Japan Gals), which have been operating for a long time and successfully, as well as nightly. In addition to moisturizing and nutrition, it makes sense to pay attention to the means for radiance of the skin - since with it, to put it mildly, it is difficult in the winter. Patches for the area under the eyes will help reduce dark circles, rhyming with the surrounding landscapes, and wrinkles.
Body
With the skin of the body everything is a little better than with the skin of the face - after all, for the most part we are covered with clothes. This minimizes the suffering, but does not eliminate them completely - it peels off the woolen clothes and jeans, suffers from temperature drops and further on the list. If possible, avoid very hot water, changing the shower to warm and abandoning the baths.
Still, skin is for man, not man for skin, and if a hot shower is an important element of well-being in winter, you should replace the usual shower gels with the softest ones (they usually have “nourishing” or “gentle” marks) or oils (L'Occitane and Yves Rocher are excellent). As for the exfoliation, it is also necessary for the skin of the body: instead of hardcore summer scrubs, it is better to use gentle gommage or oil-based exfoliants.
Moisturizing body cream, many skip: with a feeling of stickiness on the body is more difficult to put up with. For such haters, there are washable products that are commonly referred to as body conditioners with the filing of the brand Nivea, which produced one of the first such products. They should be applied after washing, without getting out of the shower, and immediately washed off - the skin remains moist and no film is formed (such means, for example, have Lush and Yves Rocher). However, body creams from our selection smell so good and are well absorbed that they should definitely be given a chance.
The skin of the hands traditionally suffers most in the winter - we are busy in hot water and do not always wear gloves (and how to wear them, when you need to check instagram and facebook all the time). The best problem is solved by dense ultra-nutritional remedies - in an amicable way, they need to be applied after each wash, but remembering at least a few times a day is also not bad. It is useful to put cotton gloves on your hands with a cream for the night. The effect is like a fabric mask; Some Asian brands produce ready-made gloves with whey inside. The skin of the legs also requires additional nourishment and regular exfoliation.
Hair
The hair is less affected by the cold - they are, after all, dead - but they are also too heavy: they split and dry, electrified under the cap and do not hold their shape well.
In winter, you can add to the care indelible serum and oil, with which it is useful to make masks before washing hair, and replace shampoos and conditioners with nourishing ones. Almost every professional brand has repairing series - Kérastase, L'Oreal Professionnel, Wella Professionals and Bonacure deserve trust.
In terms of styling, the focus is usually shifted to antistatic agents, brilliance and volume. Most modern products protect the hair from the effects of hot styling, but just in case it is better to check whether this option is indicated on the bottle. In order not to wash your hair once again, it is good to keep a dry shampoo on hand: those times have passed when they left awful white dust on hair and clothes. A good product can be used immediately after shampooing as a volume spray. And hairspray will restore the shape, shabby cap and wind.
