Checklist: 8 signs that you are stuck

ALEXANDRA SAVINA

Stability attracts many - however, it also happens that we do not notice behind a comfortable routine that we have rested against a wall, although we could (and would like to) move further. We have collected a few signs that will help look at what is happening in your life. An important caveat: apathy can be a sign of a depressive episode, so if you have been feeling sluggish and irritable for a long time, your sleep or relationship with food has changed, and your interests have disappeared, then it is better to go to a psychotherapist rather than focus on the list below.

1

You do not see the goal in what you do

This point applies primarily to work, and it is not surprising - here we spend an average of eight hours a day, so this time should be meaningful. More and more people realize that climbing up the career ladder with no desire is not necessary, but it is well worth investing in something pleasant. Nevertheless, there is a trick: even if you do not seek to conquer the managerial position, you need to be aware of what you are doing and why. Does work bring you benefit and pleasure? Do you want to develop in this area? Do you get new experience and knowledge? Do you understand that you have room to grow? If the answer to these questions is negative, it may be worth considering.

2

Are you bored

The simplest and most understandable sign that you are stuck in a routine is boredom. The easiest way to track this is again with the example of work, although it is not limited to it alone: motivation and interest can disappear in any sphere. Often listen to the sensations: how long has it become boring and what can it be connected with (are there not enough new tasks? Do you want to try the adjacent area? Did the company stop arranging?)? All this does not necessarily mean radical changes - sometimes a fairly open conversation with the leader about what you would like to do.

3

You are waiting to be happy

Many of us are accustomed to associate happiness with special moments in life: travel, holidays, meetings, and so on. Because of this, sometimes there is a feeling that it is somewhere nearby, you just have to wait a bit: “Here I will go on vacation and then finally communicate with new people”, “I’ll earn enough, and then it will be possible to think whether I need new ones hobbies". In this race, what is happening in the present is lost - and we feel that we are stuck in everyday events. How often are you basically satisfied with what happens to you outside the holidays and holidays? Do you find time to relax? And if not, is it not time to diversify everyday affairs a bit: to communicate with someone, not waiting for a vacation, to find a hobby or just to find some time for yourself?

4

You only do work

If this gif looks more sad than funny, perhaps this item is about you. It is normal to pay attention to the work - another question is whether the position “this is the whole life’s work” does not impede life itself. We have already told you how to choose an activity for the soul: if it is short, you need to remember that interests and hobbies also take time and conscious effort, as well as careful and careful attitude to your own feelings and desires. Just in case, we recall again that in any situation, when you seem to have lost interest in everything, you should make sure that we are not talking about depression - the help of a specialist is useful here.

5

You envy others

At first glance, envy is not the most obvious marker of what it is time to add to the life of diversity, and yet. We have already said that often envy indicates something that we ourselves lack: if it seems that everyone around us has a rich interesting life, you might want more variety, entertainment and exciting events. It is up to you - envy can be sent in a constructive direction.

6

You do not feel progress

Of course, no one says that you should move mountains every day, run half marathons and get a promotion - after all, it’s impossible to achieve everything at once. Nevertheless, it is always pleasant to feel forward. Of course, the point is not necessarily that you are really “stuck” - very often we do not notice progress, because we concentrate on small everyday tasks or devalue our achievements. But if you feel that some kind of sphere - whether it is a relationship with a partner, work, or anything else - is subsiding, you may need to pay special attention to it.

7

You don't care about yourself

Another non-obvious point on the list is self-care, which would seem to have little to do with being stuck in a routine. And nevertheless: in order to pay maximum attention to affairs, you need to remember to pay attention to yourself. Experts share this view: “When we don’t care about ourselves, it can lead to psychological exhaustion and depression,” said psychotherapist Laurel Steinberg. Perhaps if you pay more attention to yourself, you will have fresh strength and ideas, and other things will also go faster.

8

Relationships are predictable.

Immediately make a reservation that routine and predictability is a frequent element of close relationships: the all-consuming passion and the effect of novelty go away and the situation becomes calmer and more even. If you like to spend all evenings about the same, to relax in the same favorite bar, and the weekends always go according to the same plan, there is nothing to worry about - if only everything suits everyone. The main thing is not to forget to treat your partner and relations in general with attention - and if you want to bring a little variety into established habits, feel free to act.
