Mountain Refuge for Hikers and Mountaineers
EVERY DAY IN THE WORLD APPEAR beautiful or impossibly beautiful things, and you can look at some of them endlessly. Or at least a couple of minutes - to unload the brain, escape from the routine and let your eyes rest. Shelter for climbers and hikers, built in the area of the Skuto glacier in the Slovenian Alps, definitely among them. Few of us will happen to go there (whoever gets there is a great young man), but, as we know, it’s better to see it at least once - even in the photo.
The refuge for the brave men who took to conquer the local peaks was designed by architects from Ljubljana Rock Oman and Shpela Videchnik - both teach at Harvard and run the architectural studio OFIS. Moreover, they did this project together with their Harvard students, and in its implementation they were assisted by the London bureau AKT II, which deals with engineering consulting and was responsible for ensuring that the flight of architectural thought was combined with safety and resistance to severe mountain weather conditions.
The house of glass, wood and concrete looks fragile and weightless, but in fact it is able to withstand winds, rockfalls and avalanches. In addition, it is more spacious than it seems: the building is divided into three functional blocks, where athletes can not only wait out the bad weather, but also have a great time. The first one is set aside as a warehouse for things and equipment, as well as a kitchen, the second one is a living room and a rest room, and the third, with the most spectacular panoramic views, is a bedroom with bunk beds.
