“The time has come to cover more women's interests. We will tell stories that are important to us, making thoughtful, original reports and documentaries,” reads the letter from the editor-in-chief of Broadly, Vice Media's new project, launched in August. They do not stand on ceremony and immediately get down to business, stating bluntly: we are a feminist website. Broadly is led by the "graduate" of another important feminist online publication, Jezebel, Tracy Egan Morrissey. Broadly, in essence, will become the female face of Vice, who has become accustomed to mistakenly believe that the modern advanced audience is necessarily men. The tone and uncompromising view of the world will remain in place, but only a word will finally be given to women.
Despite the fact that Broadly works as a full-fledged site, its main strength lies in the YouTube channel. For the time being, there are hardly two dozen videos on it, but it is impossible to break away from them. Already, you can watch an interview with Rose McGowan without cuts, a report from an African female tribe, or the story of a Japanese artist who made a kayak in the shape of her vagina and which now faces two years in prison. Most Broadly content will be documentaries, interviews and investigations centered around women, with no gloss. For Broadly, there are no taboo topics, there are only topics that are not sufficiently covered, and they promise to correct this state of affairs.
